They put the "Horror" in "Horrible"
8 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Can you say "All shock, no plot?" There were so many unexplored directions in this movie. There was no history about the room other than the deaths. *WHY* was it evil? What made it that way? Why an "hour" countdown? Then, there were the unexplored things hinted at; for example we *saw* a camera in the air vent, which he mentioned. But when he climbed up said vent, there was no camera.

How about the fact that all the ghosts looked "Digital", and things "winked out" before hitting the ground making a static noise? Hmmm... when you put all of *those* things together, it makes room 1408 look like a high-tech spook house. Except that there was no follow up on that.

Oh... by the way... electronics don't work in 1408. Well, except for the TV... the cell phone has no signal, but Wireless Internet works fine. How many incontinuities can you possibly add? I'm sorry, but this film was nothing but "shock after shock". It's all been done before. Reflections in the mirror. Things just out of site. Changing paintings. Bleeding walls. The "Oh, it was all just a dream... no it wasn't." And, if the room was "evil", why make our main character come to terms with his daughter's death, if it was going to keep him trapped there forever anyway? It just didn't make sense.

Additionally, there was no background information about "The first book" that he wrote. Just some vague information about the "dad was a jerk" and so forth. Speaking of dads, what was with the bit about his father? "You'll be in my place".

Overall, a truly HORRIBLE movie. It was 100% adrenalin shock factor, without any new or innovative effects, and certainly no back story, character development, etc.

My overall impression is that the entire movie was made on the "Cheap"; pretty much using one set and a couple of location shots, and was nothing but an effects film of recycled, cheesy, "seen-that-before" effects.

Final Fantasy X-2 (2003 Video Game)
Final Fantasy the Fashion Plate?
1 December 2003
I'm well into chapter 3 of the game. What the heck is this? Final Fantasy Fashion Plates?

The story line sucks. Hands down. I was just saying to my wife "I certainly hope that this story pulls together sometime soon!" 10 was considerably better.

OK, now for the nitty-gritty. What the heck is with the battle system? OK, I'm familiar with Active Battle mode. That's fine. But, you wait until your meter charges up, then if you want to cast a spell, you have to wait AGAIN until your spell meter charges up. Then it costs mana. So, you have to wait twice as long to cast a spell.

And I can't even BEGIN to figure out the "Special Dress Spheres". Oh, and how about the equip? OK, I guess since we're playing dress-up, that we can't wear gauntlets, a ring, and earrings at the same time. Sorry, folks, only 2 slots. And you can't change equips in the middle of battle, so you'd better hope that if you're going up against Ifrit, you know in advance so you can put on something to reduce fire damage, otherwise you're hosed. Oh, did I say "Save game often?"

I mean, come on people, one of the tasks I had to do was to give one of the other characters a BACK RUB? And make sure I reached a pleasure score within a certain number of moves????

This game was apparently written by prepubescent kids who like seeing girls in different outfits.

Quite frankly, the worst $50 I ever spent.

Shall I go on? Sure, why not. It doesn't matter that I got EVERY Al-bhed primer in 10, you start over in 10-2. It doesn't matter that two thirds of your party SPEAK al-bhed, forget understanding a thing they're saying.

Sorry, I'll take 10 over 10-2 any day. For that matter, I'll take 8 over either of them.

Disappointed....
19 June 2001
Well, we just finished watching the english-dubbed version of this movie. It started off slow, left me bewildered, and actually chuckling and rolling my eyes at the fight scenes.

There were points in the movie where my wife and I were trying to figure out who was in the scene. Was that her boyfriend who came down and swept her from the water? Oh, no. It was Jade Fox. I actually saw wires in several scenes suspending the actors; sad to say the least. I was amazed to see that the movie got such a high rating. The story could have been told better, the fight scenes could have been more realistic, and there could have been better character development.

Scenes were obviously sped up to "enhance" the martial arts, and I don't care how "light" you become as part of your martial arts training, you're still susceptible to gravity.

I'm very glad I didn't see this one in the theatre, and I feel slightly taken by even spending the $3 to rent it. Other comments state that "the ignorant will hate it". Personally, I think only the easily amused will enjoy it. Just my $.02.

HIDEOUS!
14 May 2001
What an utter waste of $2 spent to rent this piece of tripe. The plot was terrible, the sexual innuendo wasn't even clever. Even Uma Thurman's makeup was crappy.

Practically no character development, a weak plot, rediculous stunts. In a word... BLECK!

An exciting story about a young man with a destiny
14 September 1998
The Last Starfighter was a wonderful story, filled with a number of surprises. The movie was also one of the first to use computer graphics to this extent, rendering the Star Car and many of the outer-space scenes.

The sets are well-constructed, the alien languages believable, and the action scenes will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Granted, it 's no "Terminator", but a good movie with a good plot that your entire family will enjoy.
