well made movie, but smells of remake
6 December 2011
Finally, a sci fi movie that doesn't offend the intelligence of the viewer and actually features a real story. I enjoyed it a lot although I feel that it is a movie of missed opportunities. The general idea that creates the premise is too good and too original, so I feel that one could have written a more complex script. Whatever - in times of "Transformers" and other stupid Alien movies, this one is a rare exception to the rule.

However, does anybody share the feeling that the story is very similar to "Logan's run" with Michael York?

Just a pity that Clint Eastwood didn't get a hold of this script earlier; he could have made a really great movie out of it.

What happened?
22 November 2011
Can anyone please let me know what happened to this great show? A few days ago, I discovered it and watched season 1 within only 2 days; I was simply hooked. A charming, touching and funny show with an incredibly great Kathy Bates. Finally a show again that I really loved, some parts even had what I call "West Wing"moments.

And now - this is essentially a completely new show where they have left the two main characters, but changed every possible aspect of it, including the wonderful soundtrack music. I mean it is still quite good, but just your average lawyer show just the same as they have been produced for the last 30 years. Any explanation for that or a reaction from the network?

Instructional Movie
19 April 2008
This movie should be used as instructional movie - to show film students how not to make a movie. It is so bad, it's almost worth seeing (reminds me fatally of the "Killer Tomatoes", but unlike that movie this is for real).

It may not even be easy to find a comparable combination of such inferior script, non-existing acting, no coherent dialog AND incredibly bad cinematography, and top it off with low budget "effects" (?) which is fatal especially when trying to make a disaster movie.

Never has a movie been truer to its genre - it is a disaster indeed!

The only part not living up (down?) to the standards of this movie is the score, the music is not great, but at times almost bearable.

Stay away from this trash - or else the only way to actually enjoy it is to perceive it as parody!

Desperate fishermen go off the coast of Maine, for a last, dangerous fishing trip, and die in the storm of the century.

Sorry, but this IS the ENTIRE plot. And there is also the main problem of the movie: tons of water, and not really a hell of a story. George Clooney desperately tries to save the movie, but the utterly uninspired direction of W. Peterson results in a bore. There are only so many waves you can watch without the desire to fall asleep. It may be better to spend a little less money on special effects, and a little more on a good screenplay.

New York Yuppie is bored by his Wall Street life and turns into a perverted serial killer. Are the events true or is he only imagining his deeds, drugged by too many videos?

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is sick, pointless and utterly boring. Its "message", if any, is as shallow as the life it pretends to criticize. No significant plot, substandard actors. Director, go back to film school and watch Stanley Kubrick who knows how to depict senseless violence!

A Miracle
24 January 1999
This movie is nothing short of a miracle. What a simple and old story we´ve seen so many times on the screen and on stage throughout the world! But this time, it really takes you away beyond ordinary cinema story-telling. The movie works perfectly because of an excellent director who creates the exactly right atmosphere full of romance and humor, and who never crosses the fine line between cheap entertainment and art; because of outstanding actors (Brad Pitt has never been as good as in this movie, Hopkins outdoes himself, and Claire Forlani is just breathtaking - in every sense of the word) and because of a very sensitive and beautiful music. And whatever bored and cynical critics tell you - this movie is not a single minute too long! Can´t wait until it will be relased on DVD!

Gattaca (1997)

excellent story, good style
25 November 1998
These days, one has to be happy about any film plot which is not made by and for 10 year old analphabets and does not find its climax in a big shoot-out. The movie "Gattaca" is an excellent movie with a good story that gives you something to think and talk about after the show. The fact that it is made in a very stylish manner (somebody from the crew must be a big fan of Philippe Starck´s) and enacted by beautiful people like Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke does not exactly make it less enjoyable. The future, populated by genetically engineered people, is inhumanly perfect and beautiful, but also cruel and unforgiving. The story shows that not everything in life is about perfection, especially love and excelling accomplishments. In terms of style, the movie frequently quotes classical future-doomed predecessors like Metropolis, 1984 or even Fahrenheit 451.

extremely stupid
24 November 1998
Probably one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen. Director can´t decide whether to make a comedy, romance, absurd comedy or horror story. It is less than bad, it is simply boring beyond belief. The only thing that matches the incredibly stupid story and inferior directing, is the lack of any visible acting as such.
