Damn good fun
8 September 2005
The chemistry between the leads in this movie is terrific and it is every bit as good as any Indy or Mummy movie. Light years better then most of the drivel out there these days. This is just a fun movie with some great one liners and a terrific supporting cast as well. Sure it's implausible a time or two, what adventure/fantasy movie is not?, but it's got great pace and tells a big story quite well. There's even moments of political and social comment cloaked in humor. McCaunahey and Zahn do what they do best here and it shows. Yes, Cruz can be impossible to understand at times but she is not baggage and gets well into the fray. William Macy as usual is terrific as are the villains. Just a darn good adventure romp.

Crap
5 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen "professional" reviews claiming Julia Roberts playing herself was "clever and very funny". I think NOT. An actress playing herself? And doing it with her same usual dizziness whenever she tries comedy? Talk about Hollyweird narcissism at it's utmost. Why doesn't she just stand there and go, "Me, me, me. Look at me!." The director and writer should be shot for not thinking of something better then this in what could have been a charming sequel. and by the way Steven, when the audience starts paying more attention to the weird camera angles then the story you have a problem. Capra, Hitchcock, all used some creative cameras but they were talented enough not to lose the audience in them or just show off with the camera. You seem to have forgotten a cardinal rule of film-making in the name of "style". The Pitt and Zeta Jones chemistry is quite good however, perhaps if they had made the film more focused around them and dispensed with the narcissism it might have worked. Once again Zeta Jones shows how she's got more talent and beauty then Roberts could dream of. Sadly, this film wastes talent and fails on many accounts. I want my money back.

Reloaded with blanks
10 June 2003
I really tried to give this thing a chance. Unfortunately, whether I'm the target demographic or not, I walked out after an hour and half. Clearly trying to lift from Star Wars and Aliens, the only thing they loaded this thing with was fluff and effects, forgetting to put in the heart and soul of the ones they were trying to emulate. Too much of the script did not make sense, the dialogue was inane and star performances one note. Jackie Chan does better stunts and fight scenes. Not even a good popcorn movie.....

Pollock (2000)

Superb
1 February 2001
Ed Harris shows what a truly great talent he is, both as an actor and director. Regardless of whether your a fan of Pollock or not or whether you agree with the "disturbed" artist syndrome, this film is a tour de force in filmmaking. Excellent script fueled by gutsy performances. Marcia Gay Harden shows once again what a valuable commodity she is an actress and Ed Harris takes chance few would risk. Those are the two that should be up for Oscars and SAG awards. Great to see Jennifer Connelly, getting more gorgeous with age, and some great cameos. Hats off to Lisa Rintzler for a beautifully photographed film, on 16mm no less, that looks better then most 35mm productions. You want to see Ed Harris and Marcia Harden really act with some great material? This is it, don't miss it if your a fan of either.

Brilliant script, brilliant cinematography, great acting and soundtrack

Best comedy in years, friend turned me on to this hilarious comedy of errors and glad she did. The film is damn near flawless, forces you to pay attention to the twists and turns through it's witty dialogue. Wonderfully photographed with brilliant camerawork but not overdone. Worth several sittings and we could learn alot in Hollywood from this one....

Wonderfully brilliant

I was lucky enough to see this at the Hungarian Film Festival in LA last year and it was the best comedy i have seen in a decade. Charming slapstick, shades of Chaplin, witty dialogue and hilarious twists and turns. The audience at the screening I attended practically rolled on the floor continuosly. Highly recommend!!!
