Darcy-Firth and Darcy-Rintoul
15 January 1999
I'm a devoted fanatic of Jane Austen's literature and was delighted watching this TV-series bring to life her masterpiece. My adorable Mr.Darcy-Firth (now decidedly very much-a-man), and Lizzy, Jane, Charlotte... I could finally see them the way they ought to be envisaged! Is not for me to undervalue the other excellent BBC earlier version, very true to the text, casting Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul (By the way, can anyone of my on-line colleagues send me any news about them? I've tried other sites, but hélas, in vain!). They were great also, and have filled many a recurrent dream of mine: a soirée at Netherfield Park where I was of course a beautiful Elizabeth Bennet's alter-ego... then Mr. Darcy (now the Rintoul-Darcy) approaches me with his usual mona lisa's smile, but a very distinct surrendered expression in his eyes... and I hear a warm, modulated, voice... 'Do not you, Miss Bennet, feel a great inclination to seize such an opportunity of dancing a reel?...' Oh my God!!

But please, I'm not that benevolent as to my cult. I can also be severe if I need so. I couldn't, ever, forgive Sir Laurence for his participation in a Greer Garsonish 1940' pitiable attempt of touching the least fringe of Pride and Prejudice. Had I in possession of some proficiency in the English language and I'd invoke the Pharaoh's wrath over it. Well, I already did in Portuguese, but I'm afraid, in this case, a different sound is doomed to be less incisive.

Delicious all over.

I saw this movie at the cinema and thought I must have it on video, handy, at home. And since then I've been delighting myself and my friends with home-theather sessions of it. It's an explosive, energetic love story with a very, very appealing sound-track! And fully characterized by two talented, beautiful, people: Salma H. and Matthew Perry. The whole cast is admirable also. Next summer when I went to New York I'll look for the Green Pappaya's hot-dog as a tribute.

You are all seduction!

My daughter and I, we both are crazy about this TV-series We can even say "addicted". The story is richly involvent and each character has its own unique charm. As soon as one show is ended and we are already looking forward the next,.. and the next... Calista, you are all seduction! By the way, how about a complete video with all Ally & Associated adventures? Yours, truly, fans.

Why not to be continued?...

I love romantic comedies, and this was one of the best I've ever seen.Full credit for the performers, cast & crew. Stunning Bill and Sandra! And Peter Callaghan - a must! Notwithstanding...I became a little frustrated with what I think was an abrupt ending. I would like to know more about Peter, the sleepy brother, and his reaction to the loss of the bride to be. I suggest another film based on this WYWS plot, or even TV series. Why not?
