Why did I listen to my sister. I'm not a Cuba Gooding fan at all. The last movie was Boyz In The Hood. But I thought, as did my sister, that the movie was going to be a thriller, you know something scary....WRONG...more like something boring. After 30 mins of nothingliness, empty dialogue and a few sudden moves by Hopkins I was asking myself when will the drama happen. I wouldn't have mine if the trailers had been honest. They showed a movie that looked like it was going to be suspenseful. Not about one man discovering his true instinct (Gooding) and another man mourning the lost of his gorilla family. Give me a break. First the relationship between Gooding and the daughter...either they were going to get it on or not, don't play with it. I just couldn't relate to the humanizing of apes (such environmentalist melodrama). Last, but not least, what was up with the feeling of rain on Goodings face at the end...I was like, Oh PALEEZE spare me the cheese. I'm sorry I just hated this movie. But one of my sisters liked it.

I really wanted to see this movie in the theaters. I had just seen Lovejones and I thought Hav Plenty was going to be on the same level. Instead, I rented the video and I was so happy I didn't waste my money. Don't get me wrong, I give Mr. Cherot his props as a first time director, actor, editor and writer. I just thought the movie needed more character development and more of a plot. Maybe if this movie had been released before Lovejones, I wouldn't have had high expectations.
