Pie in the Sky (1994–1997)
Gently amusing English TV crime series
3 January 1999
'Pie in the Sky' is the name of a country restaurant run by part-time Detective Inspector Henry Crabbe and his accountant wife, Margaret. Henry makes the world's greatest steak and kidney pies and would cheerfully retire from the police force. Assistant Chief Constable Freddie Fisher, however, won't okay his retirement for reasons I won't disclose. Freddie calls in Henry to solve difficult cases which are likely to cause embarrassment to senior members of the local police force. There are moments of drama in this series, but these are tempered by an underlying streak of gentle humour. A wonderful cast, great scripts, as well as cooking lessons from Henry, in between the action. Take note of Bella Enahoro who plays 'Cambridge' in the first five seasons. She and Henry make a great duo!

The Vicar of Dibley (1994–2020)
Amusing British TV series
14 December 1998
An amusing British TV series featuring a fine cast and seamless scripts, custom made for the talents of actress Dawn French., who plays a newly arrived vicar in the small village of Dibley. This show in some ways reminds me of 'Seinfeld' which may shock some viewers. Quite often the funniest punch lines come after the credits have rolled. You have been warned. Don't leave the room until the ads hit the screen!

Goodnight Sweetheart (1993–2016)
Brilliantly amusing English time travel TV series.
14 December 1998
This brilliantly amusing English time travel TV series concerns the dual life of Gary Sparrow, a self-centred coward who journeys back and forth between modern day London and the London of World War 2. Gary loves two women equally, runs a collectables shop specialising in, you guessed it, WW2 nostalgia, and has a long-suffering friend, Ron, the only one in whom he confides. A fine cast and faultless scripts will quickly hook you as it did this jaded TV buff..

The Bill (1984–2010)
English 'fly on the wall' TV police series
14 December 1998
This long-running English police series deals with the everyday adventures of both the uniformed and plain-clothed (CID) officers of Sun Hill, a 'manor' in London's East End. The unique feature of 'The Bill' is that you, the viewer, only ever see events from the police point of view. There are no extraneous plot developments outside to distract from the often real life based stories, developed by a large team of writers who hold regular meetings to discuss the many characters, who arrive (and leave) on a regular basis. In some ways 'The Bill' can be compared to 'Hill Street Blues'. But not really. See it for yourself.
