a real woody allen movie here and there, but I hate the singing
14 January 1999
I love woody allen movies. The dialogs are always funny, intelligent, etc. etc.

But this singing doesn't do it for me. Maybe it works for older people but.....

I FF-ed all the singing and liked the rest.

I give it a 7.

Very original, very enjoyable
9 January 1999
This movie is really an original. It filmed in black and white and tries to capture the mood of the crime movies of the 40's and 50's and succeeds in it. Blended into the story are loads of scenes with Hollywood greats (from their movies from the 40's and 50's) that sometimes don't blend in too well, but I can forgive that because the idea is so good.

There's also plenty of room for funny scenes with steve martin. If you like him, you should watch this. It takes a bit of effort to go watch a b/w movie, but it's worth it.

I give it a 9.

Couldn't finish watching it.

This movie just doesn't have it, like other nora ephron movies do.

I stopped watching after 45 minutes, because there was too little interesting going on to keep watching. Liked the scene were you seen travolta for the first time (an angel with a belly, dressed only in a boxer and wanting a cigarette), but that does not make a movie.

Hated it. 2.

The Dentist (1996)

Fairly original considering the pitch
4 January 1999
This movie was very enjoyable, though you'll only like it if: - you hate going to the dentist but aren't afraid of a movie where one of them goes beserk - you love horror movies

I particularly liked the fact that some care was given to explaining the brute actions of the main character. The fact that he's totally obsessed by cleanliness (especially in the mouth) and then catches his wives providing some oral pleasure to the mud-covered pool-man is a pretty believable reason to go overboard.

Liked it. I give it an 8.

Starts out slow but keeps getting better from then on
4 January 1999
Ok,

This movie starts and it's about a village in the time where people were VERY catholic and believed in witches and stuff. The first twenty minutes are not very appealing (but I must admit I hate this kind of movie) but then it gradually gets better.

And it doesn't stop getting better until the end, which is very good and very emotional. By then, you understand how this happened (it's a true story) and why. You care for the characters and you're really upset by their choices.

Great movie, pity it starts out a little slow. 8.

Alien Avengers (1996 TV Movie)
7/10
weird weird movie (but reasonably enjoyable)
29 December 1998
Ok,

This movie is WEIRD. It tells the story of a family of aliens that come to earth on vacation. There they meet a guy who has just inherited his grandmother's hotel (which is in the middle of a "you don't want to live here" suburb riddled with crime).

They seem quite nice and fix up the old hotel in one night(!), but then we discover the darker side of these people. They LOVE violence (it's not done where they come from).

So they go out regularly to find trouble and have some nice violence, you could say.

It's not a good movie, but very original. Funny to see norm doing something else than cheers for a change. 7.

Mute Witness (1995)

suspense, suspense and violence
29 December 1998
This is a VERY good movie. I give it a 10.

It's very different in that it's kind of a long stalking scene all the way through. The fact that the main character is mute is used throughout the story in a very believable way.

She sees a murder (for a snuff-movie) and decides to run but is chased (this takes quite some time). I won't reveal the rest of the movie for it would spoil the experience, but rest assured: it's very believable, well played, very intense and has some nice surprises plus a great ending.

Don't miss this movie.

Students play a prank on a teacher that goes wrong

Although I'm way past the high-school age, I still liked this movie. I do believe that people in high-school would give it a higher grade though.

The actors are alright, the story is alright, but the believable manipulation and "wanting to be part of the crowd" made this movie better than average.

I give it a 7.

Kevin Spacey (the producer) is very good in this movie. I can't imagine another actor playing the part that well (look for other kevin spacey movies, I haven't seen a bad one yet - in fact, they're all brilliant)

Only drawback is that the romance is not very believable, but considering the fantastic quotes, the very good acting and the fantastic ending, I forgive that little error.

Very nice that they managed to give the producer a personality to hate, and still get you to understand him in the end. Very nice indeed.

Great movie. Can't miss. 10.
