Quarantine (2000 TV Movie)
Cheeeeeeeeese!
5 January 2002
This film is absolutely appalling! It is so cheesy that it's almost impossible to turn over. ~I~ could provide better security than the Secret Service are depicted with. ~I~ could provide been biological analysis than the CDC are depicted with.

I admit I may not be the #1 fan of the US, but even I am offended at how incompetently and unrealistically everyone is portrayed as being.

The science is shot to hell, the reality is shot to hell. The guys who wrote this script have not a single clue -- do they even live in this reality? *GRIN*

All that said, if you enjoy 1980s-style, unrealistic, paranoid, badly-made, badly-acted B-movies, you will watch this and giggle at how much one may gather by scraping the bottom of the barrel. New depths in storytelling are plumbed in every minute. More clichés than you can shake a stick at, effects undeserving of the sobriquet "special", acting so bad that you know babies better at it and more cheese than France, Holland, Switzerland and the whole of Scandinavia.

If you want a good story, well told, look elsewhere. If you have nothing better to do than watch a film where everyone involved in it should never be employed again, then sit back and enjoy!

Supernova (I) (2000)
6/10
Very predictable genre film, but quite good nonetheless
30 December 2000
Warning: Spoilers
**VERY VAGUE, NON-SPECIFIC SPOILERS**

If anyone has seen any of the genre films, they'll know exactly what is going to happen. It is a standard "nice space community until an intruder comes in" film, akin to Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Saturn 3 (1980) and so many others.

That said, there have been few in this genre of late. This is a very worthy effort. The differences that give Supernova (2000) its individuality over the genre are interesting and intriguing. The SFX are exceptional -- intricate CGI that is very credible and very well rendered.

This coupled with an attractive and interesting cast (though it took IMDb to place James Spader for me, the shame!) and Knox Grantham White is very attractive (with a pleasant amount of nudity to keep you interested, if the storyline and SFX don't do that already ;o)

I'd recommend it well -- it's gone straight onto my Amazon wish list. Well worth a DVD rental fee, despite the predicability

Excellent!
3 March 2000
The best piece of film choreography I have ever seen. Usher DJing Fatboy Slim beats everything I have ever seen on screen before -- even the Blues Brothers!

Excellent film. Takes teen angst and Pygmalion and intersperses them together brilliantly! A must see! :o)

One of the best films I've ever seen (may contain spoilers!)
15 October 1999
Warning: Spoilers
Until watching this again this week, I'd forgotten why this rates as one of my top five all time greatest films!

The scenery is excellent, the script is fabulous (I'd forgotten how funny), the storyline is great and, frankly, with so many films putting women down, we men deserve the odd bit of bashing every now and then and I can think of no two women I'd rather have do it than Susan Sarandonand Geena Davis!

The one scene I love seeing over and over (if I must pick only one) is where Darryl watches the CCTV footage, in disbelief that it could happen. I nearly wet myself laughing every time I see it!

Interestingly, on the Region 2 DVD version of the film, there is an "extended ending" as one of the extras. It seems that the director originally had the audience actually seeing the results of the final shot but decided (rightly, IMHO) that some of the impact of the ending was lost as a result...

Definitely one of the way greatest films in history!

*THE* quintessential gay film
29 January 1999
This film is, undoubtedly, *the* quintessential gay film.

If you even claim to know gay people you should see this film. I used to help run a youth group for under 25s dealing with their sexuality and we screened this film four times in two years.

I have seen this film more times than almost any other film and it still never fails to move me. Take your Kleenex, this'll make you cry! :o)

WATCH IT -- IT'S EXCELLENT!
