Oh. My. God.
18 February 2001
Boy dies. Boy's brain is implanted (?!) into animatronic dinosaur. Animatronic dinosaur w/ boy's brain seeks revenge. And that's not even the worst part-- Denise Richards is the lead.

Oh God my eyes! It hurts, it hurts! And yet I cannot look away!

Chicago Cab (1997)

Great acting, weak plot...
21 June 1999
Although the acting throughout this entire film was great, there was little plot-- cab driver picks up odd and/or troubled fares; fares demonstrate their weirdness and talk about their troubles; the end. The box for this movie was highly misleading-- something about "the night from hell", "unusual passengers" "unfathomable events"... making it appear more like an episode of X-Files and less like what it is: a day in the life of a cab driver. But if you're in it more for the acting than you are the story line, it's worth a rent.

The Worst Movie Ever.
21 June 1999
Whatever happened to the "Raising Arizona" Nick Cage? From the looks of this, he's gone forever. It goes something like this: good guy, murder, prison, bad guys, murder, explosions. Oh yeah, and there's an airplane. The dialogue was unbelievably horrible-- the physical equivalent of being punched in the head repeatedly-- and Cage's accent is a joke. Even this cast of notoriously great actors couldn't get past the script. I realize that action movies aren't supposed to be plausible, but *please*... I'm not that stupid.

Great direction.

Good movie... too bad they didn't get more indepth with the mathematics. But it asks the question: how far would you go to know everything, and how far would you go to forget it? Pretty friggin far, apparently.

All seven of my points go to Mike Meyers in his portrayal of Steve Rubell. So convincing it borders on frightening. But the story... it's like the afterschool special version of "Boogie Nights". Too many details filtered out... no Ian, no consequences, and no Grace Jones. (How can anybody forget Grace Jones???)

Big finish?
1 February 1999
Not a whole lot to say on the subject of "Dark City" because it must be seen to be understood. Visually stunning (all of it... costume, make-up, special effects), good plot. But the ending is predictable and happens too fast, with too little explanation.

I loved it, I don't care what anyone else says.

I found "Butterfly Kiss" to be mesmerizing, horribly sad, and strangely energizing. Twisted is the right word for it, but there was more to it than two crazies running around killing people. The bond between Mi and Eu that was cemented so quickly after them having met each other is the most fascinating facet of the whole story. What Mi gives up for Eu is heartbreaking and amazing.

i can't even begin. if you have a brain and appreciate certified lunatics, you will pay any price for this movie. josh hamilton & parker posey as twins who are a little too close, freddie prinze jr. before he was a teen idol, and tori spelling in a good-girl role that makes it all the more fun to hate her. short, nauseating in the best way, and my second favorite movie of all time.

The best movie in the history of the world.

The most brilliantly sarcastic, true-to-life movie for the overly-intelligent post-college set. Real dialogue!! I have seen this movie 11 times and have yet to find the broken glass scene any less amusing. Full of tiny metaphors... pay attention. Chris Eigeman steals the show. Not that Josh Hamilton doesn't deserve an award too. My favorite movie in the history of all things good.

Benway!

This is a most incredible film... that Cronenburg could piece together Burroughs' cut-ups in a visual and even mildly understandable way is a testament to his brilliance. Judy Davis is lovely as usual.
