The Low Life (1995)
Entertaining ...

The characters don't interact with each other very well, but separately they are very interesting. I especially liked Sean Astin's Andrew, a lonely twenty-something with a penchant for 80s power ballads. James LeGros is up to his usual standards as Michael Schroeder, Jr., the landlord who sends his temps to do everything from plumbing to evictions.

I usually like Rory Cochrane, but either his character wasn't written all that well (probably the case) or he didn't do it very well. At the end you're more interested in Andrew's fate than anyone else's.

Genius!

I went into this movie having loved "Bottle Rocket" and this was even better (I only saw it 5 times in the theater ;) )

The cast, script and execution were amazing, and I laughed out loud often, especially when Max joined the Cleveland High School's cheerleaders...

only 10 people walked out ...

the only reason I could stand to sit through this movie was I was curious how Kubrick would treat the Schnitzler novella. Nicole Kidman was at her worst (she couldn't even cry on cue, even Tom could do that!), and Tom Cruise kept making these Risky Business poses.

What insulted me the most is the scene where Cruise's friend basically explains the plot of the movie to him (and us). How stupid did Kubrick think we were? Most other movies don't attempt to summarize what's going on for the viewers, and you can bet the Schnitzler novella didn't tell you what you were supposed to understand.

Nicole and Tom didn't even look good naked!

I almost walked out of this one! Leelee Sobieski was the only saving grace of this movie. Everyone else in this movie looked horrible (poor Drew), and the plot was so unoriginal!

lame and offensive

This movie was such a letdown! I couldn't believe that they could get away with all of the racial and handicapped-related jokes! I'm surprised there weren't groups picketing the showings of this movie that wasn't even good enough to forgive all of the offensive comments!
