Scooter Kidz (2001)
Decent family fare
Scooter Kidz is a bargain-bin flick, but one I feel hits its target audience (ages 4-12) successfully. Though clearly made on a very low budget, and with a somewhat formulaic script, it has lots of "heart." It's essentially about a family of foster brothers who get split up by the state, and then the oldest brother (Donny) gets the idea that if he can win a Razor scooter contest, maybe he can "buy" his kid brother (Sam) back. The scooter contest itself contains much suspense, and some pretty wild scooter tricks. The acting was, overall, alright. The "new" parents who adopt Sam provide some comic relief, and the "bully" is also entertaining. I saw this in a room full of young kids, and they all seemed to be into it. Not a one of them left the room. A good birthday gift for the younguns. Look for it at Best Buy, which is where I got it for $5.99.
