Funny, but teccnically old
20 August 2003
I was Introduced to this movie by my brother who is a russia/communist fan. He loves it not only beacause it speaks about an russian space trip, but also because it's one of the few swiss movies around. I must admit that the story is very funny, and it's a pleasant film to watch, but to me the acting is very poor, also the sets and the effects are bad.

I don't know if Bernasconi did other movies, and I think that as seen in other Swiss production, the quality could be much better. With a more professional look it would be a interesting film. For people who want only to be amused by a short story it's ok.

An Experience You Can't Forget
20 August 2003
Lux, The biography of light, is a very strange trip in a world with his own rules and logic. At the beginning we follow a dog who is the philosof of the story (as stated in a interview by "van der Kooij" at the famous Swiss Movie Program "Delikatessen"). He leads us from the birth of light until the first humans appearance: the light eater and the light lover. The Director and writer of this movie creates a strange world, very difficult to understand, and full of symbols that are open to our interpretation, for example a strange countdown that begins early in the film with numbers made of burning matches that return periodically with different rapresentations. Pretty good settings and beautyful cameras movement done with a budget of "only" 1 Million Swiss Francs.

Concluding a film very hard to appreciate, because of the difficulty to understand, but in my opinion worth to be seen because it tries to tell something new.

I loved it, and I'm proud to be Swiss

This Film is very funny, it presents all the good and bad things of Switzerland: banks, watches, kindness, be neutral, be a bit closed minded and with a great attaccement to the traditions. The Story is very simple, we follow 2 people that must decide if some stranger can get the Swiss nationality. Full of amusing situation, with a strange love story, and full of "clichées" about swiss, italian, german,... people that can always bring a smile on the audience. It's the most popular Swiss film ever made, with about 1 Million visitors, it's a little number for the world movies, but very big for our country. Very amusing for all who knows a bit of the european culture or Switzerland

Comedy and Tragedy meld in a great movie
15 March 1999
Benigni's story is to me one of the most touching movies about the Holocaust. Not for cruel images or shocking scenes but because there is a split between before and after the war. At the beginning the film is comedic, but during the war the humor of the film changes and something in the viewer changes too. S/he feels that something isn't the same anymore and s/he can understand that after a crime like the holocaust nothing can be like before. This film is a great experience, and Benigni has explained a difficult theme in a different way, and he has done it in a exemplary way.
