It Takes a Thief (1968–1970)
The coolest show ever.
28 August 2001
It Takes a Thief was the coolest show ever. Wagner was suave, sophisticated, and always well dressed. Inventive stories, great dialogue, and watching Robert Wagner and Fred Astaire plot to knock over the casino in Monte Carlo is just irresistible. This would be a perfect candidate for a big-screen remake, but there's nobody cool enough to fill Alexander Mundy's shoes--maybe Travolta?

Rousing family adventure
12 February 2000
Originally an English feature, this film was edited into three segments for the Wonderful World of Disney, and is very difficult to find now. McGoohan is superb as the kindly vicar who leads a double life as the masked avenger known as The Scarecrow. Plenty of action, suspense, and great period atmosphere make this film enjoyable for all ages. Memorable theme song and cinematography add to the effect--don't miss this sleeper.

Varsity Blues (1999)
Ending by survey
29 April 1999
Does it seem to anyone that this movie was headed for a completely different ending, like Billy Bob having a heart attack at the end of the big game and Moxon rejecting the whole football obsession of his town? The present ending looks like one of those tacked-on happy wrap-ups--complete with unconvincing, out-of-character voiceover--that was grafted on after audience "research" indicated that the public demands happy endings. Too bad--this was a good movie until the last ten minutes.
