i guess most people were expecting a belly-laugh comedy?
1 May 2003
This is maybe marketed as a real comedy, but the real laughter comes from the fine line between pain and laughter. As someone who had to undergo anger management in very much the same situation as the character here (I swore at my 14-yr old daughter in public) , I felt the scenes with the group therapy were so close to the reality that I laughed for self preservation. Some reviewers think they've left their childhood experiences behind them. I got news for you guys. You NEVER shake off your upbringing. If you think you have, you have some serious denial issues. This is not a funny ha-ha film. For me, the humour comes from the realization that we could all end up in that situation so very easily. The tacked-on 'happy' ending didn't spoil it for me but I guess it could for some.

Morgan's Boy (1984– )
Powerful, simple drama with no sentimentality whatsoever.
26 October 2000
A troubled boy from the big city goes to live with his Welsh hill farmer uncle ( Gareth Thomas) , partly to escape trouble back home. The initial mutual hostility gives way to grudging respect on both sides, but external forces have other plans for both of them. Essentially a two-hander, but with superb performances from all the cast.
