Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
trash
I don't understand the appeal of this film. The car chase scenes aren't that exciting or fun to watch (when compared to "Bullitt" or even "The Blues Brothers"). The main character is scum, the plot non-existent, and the acting is horrible. There are some disgusting racist overtones at the very end of the movie.
When I saw this film on TV, it was shown with a 1/2 hour documentary, produced by Toby Halicki's window, that makes him how to be some kind of genius. It was a really unfortunate commentary on a movie with a seriously screwed-up world view.
The Beach (2000)
A singularly annoying film
Contains Spoilers The only thing that kept me watching this film to the end was my fascination with the depths of superficiality and stupidty it dove into. The end of the film caps it off: after killing one person, and playing a role in the deaths of four others, Leonardo DiCaprio's character returns home, where he sits in a posh computer lab and decides that despite all that happened, it was a truly wonderful thing to be a part of a clique.
Now that I've seen this film, I'll make a point never to see a film by Danny Boyle again.
The Racing Scene (1969)
yawn
This film has some great in-car racing footage in it, but between the racing scenes, we're treated to James Garner walking around and doing a bunch of self-important stuff, some of it racing related. A ten minute scene devoted to Garner getting out of bed, showering, and shaving is just one of the ridiculous non-events that add up to make this film a major bore.
