Get Ready to Be Boyzvoiced (2000)
Ridiculously hilarious
Anyone who despises boybands will love this movie! It's a mockumentary following a boyband called Boyzvoice (consisting of MPete, Hot Tub and Roar) on tour. All sorts of things that come along with being in a boyband happen, including a shocking "secret."
One of the most memorable characters is their biggest fan, Ove, who takes a huge risk writing a report on his favourite group for school and almost gets trampled to death at a shopping mall performance. His naivete is just too funny, as are Boyzvoice's music videos. They're all in English, save for the "Latin" dance song that most boybands have. Hilarious lyrics, some on the naughty side, but never repulsive.
Serendipity (2001)
Not as good as I had hoped
Call me cynical but I didn't find two *unavailable* people falling for each other after only a few hours, romantic. Maybe if I had watched this a couple of years ago, my opinion would be drastically different. In the first place, they shouldn't have gone further than sharing a meal together.
This is supposed to be a romantic comedy, although nothing much about it was funny except for Eugene Levy, who does a commendable job as a salesman.
Sweet as the concept may be of love at first sight with your 'soulmate,' it's unrealistic to think that two people ready to commit themselves to marriage, would be so easily swayed into something fickle that lasted less than half a day. I certainly hope *real* people have more integrity than that. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE romance and romantic comedies, but to say this falls short of my expectations is an understatement.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
It wasn't that bad...
Before I went to see this movie, I had this in mind: "OK, almost everyone I know isn't going to see this because critics say it apparently bombed, so it must be really bad." I was even a little too analytical, but halfway through I decided I quite liked it.
Sure, PH was predictable, a smidgen unrealistic and painfully clichéd. Some of the lines bordered on nerve-grating. I usually turn on the waterworks at movies like these but I didn't shed a tear. OK, so the last scene made me cry, but that wasn't exactly romance-related. I guess I didn't feel there was enough character development to cry for the leads. The music wasn't even that moving.
However, the attack scene was spectacular although it would have been better if it was a tad shorter (bathroom break needed!). Still, I liked the movie and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm partial to tragic love stories.
I wouldn't pay to watch it again but I'm not sorry that I did before.
