Paulo is an alienated medicine student who's ever getting stoned. His roommate, Leon, a brilliant afrobrazilian sociology student dates the beautiful and rich Leticia, who studies Architecture. What seems to be another inconsequent movie about young people, their passions and a love triangle grows into a very interesting story when one of Paulo's terminal patients asks him to find her sons before she dies. The three students find themselves involved in the hard reality of the live in the favela.

Good acting, very nice choice of locations settings, showing the beauty hidden in the most unattractive part of Rio de Janeiro, incredible soundtrack and, most of all, a very precise pace make this film a really good surprise

I was really surprised to see so much positive reviews of `Nueve Reinas' when it got to the movies here in Brazil. After all, we are not used to see much films of our neighbor country getting the attention of the general public. But this film sure deserved all the compliments it received and more. Not only the screenplay is very interesting and well written, but also in all aspects the film shows a high degree of quality. Ricardo Darin is superb in his role as a heartless, cynic grifter, while Gatón Pauls really convinces as a disturbed, unwilling one. All the secondary roles are played by competent actors (which is very surprising in South American movies, where you can easily find excellent actors sharing stage with amateurs). Everything works fine in this movie: the direction, the timing, the end. It is really worth seeing.

If you are an Almodovar fan, you will love it. If you are not, its a good film to watch so that you can become one. Great story, great characters, great emotions! All little details, from the plots in Barcelona to the music, are fantastic. Go watch it!
