Toys (1992)
Wow.
31 May 2003
Any film with an opening sequence that, no matter how many times I've seen it, can still send my spine a-tinglin' is worthy of praise. Toys is no exception. This is one film that definitely divides opinion: no one is indifferent towards it, they either hate it with a passion or love it. I, personally, love it.

It has some of the most surreal, imaginative set design, fantastic music and best Robin Williams acting ever seen. Ever. So, I know I'm gushing, but any film that can disturb a committed gorehound like myself (the battle of the toys) is worthy of respect, and then almost make me cry with it's breathtaking beauty and a storyline that works on so many levels.

See it, and make your own mind up. I hope you grow to love it like I do.

One thing made this film great...

...and that was the atrocious lesbian subtext between the little girl and Loni Anderson! Some of the lines from the lady in leather were so morally wrong they were superb! That said, the rest of the film was poor, with the three kids not even comprehending the basic rules of the ninja (as in STAYING UNSEEN AND SILENT!). The fight scenes were static and bland. If you want a good ninja film for the kids, rent Surf Ninjas. Also, even thinking about Colt's haircut still makes me cringe a week after I saw the film...

Ned's Newt (1997–1999)
One word says it all, but I just wish I knew what word!

This is one of those cartoons that you feel is squarely aimed at teenagers, as they will get the most out of all the oblique pop culture references, the fast-paced slapstick, and the sheer surrealism of it all!

It is, however, truly enjoyable. Worth getting up for without a doubt!

Many Happy Returns (1986 TV Movie)

There is NOTHING funny about taxes.

A comedy starring George Segal about tax returns. Doesn't sound to promising, does it? The acting is wooden, and the plot is dire and dull. Any points for originality must be removed for the dreariness of the whole experience.

But, it did give me enough tape space to tape my favourite Simpsons episodes, so it's not all bad...

Don't take it seriously...

This is one of the best films I have ever seen. It's so funny I almost fell off my chair. Watch out for the puke, though - not for those with a weak stomach (no pun intended)!

Good, good, good.

This is a very good film. The stunts are amazing, the romance is so bad it's funny, and it stars Sammo, Jackie, Biao AND Wah! However, Sammo's bowl haircut and Benny's mascara, make it look very eighties, but still, it's definitely worth watching!
