Rushmore (1998)
one of my very favorites
Rushmore is one of my very favorite movies of all time. I think it deserves an oscar nomination for Schwartzman and Murray, plus best picture for the upcoming academy awards. Alas, it will never win because its too smart and too complicated for the old fogies in the voting circle.
It is a great movie with black humor, romance, and redemption. Although its a little sappy, Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson should get more recognition for this work but won't because this movie grossed less than $20M. Also, buy the soundtrack, even if you didn't like the movie.
Crumb (1994)
strange man with a stranger family
An excellent but deeply disturbing documentary about the comic artist, Crumb, who came up with the Keep on Truckin cartoon. He seems like a weird little man but his other brothers are even stranger than he. A must see if you like documentaries.
Brother's Keeper (1992)
a fantastic documentary
Unlike most people, I love documentaries and this is one of the finest I have ever seen along with Crumb and Hands on a Hard Body.
Its a touching story of some very strange brothers, who are outcasts in a small town in Upstate New York, but who are totally supported by the townspeople who once shunned them. Its a great real life tale of the deep compassion of humans and how people learn to accept the oddness of others, after a tragedy occurs.
