The Fog (2005)
1/10
One big bore
2 February 2006
It has been said by other moviegoers, so what more can I say? This movie was very dull, to say the least. If you want to see a scary flick, this one is not for you. If you want to see likable characters, again this is not for you. If you want to toss out some money and waste 90 minutes of your life, go for it. It is best to just stick to the 1980 original. This version did not build up any suspense or leave you rooting for anybody. A very flat movie, indeed, which had very little fog in it. The fact that this was filmed close to my home community does not add any stars to my rating. In fact, I am ashamed to say that my community would have anything to do with this boring garbage.

S.I.C.K. that I rented it
30 November 2004
Yes, I am S.I.C.K. that I spent $2.00 Canadian on this. I watched it one day after "Sanitarium," which makes "S.I.C.K." look like "Casablanca." Anyway, judging by its own merits (or lack of) S.I.C.K. is, more or less, a big waste of time. The acting is brutally bad. The film quality is cheap. It looks like it was done on low-low budget. The actors obviously have never taken acting lessons. The bad acting does get in the way of things far too many times. And the plot is so unoriginal that I won't even go there. This movie has been done many times before, and done much, much better. Avoid this. I am sure there is something better to do. Maybe count the tiles on your kitchen floor or talk to the plants.

Sanitarium (2001 Video)
1/10
Invest in something else
29 November 2004
Whoa! This movie was bad. I can't believe how the DVD box in my local video store totally contradicted the actual movie itself. However, I won't claim false advertising. I was a sucker and blew about $2.00 Canadian to rent this thing. $2.00 that could have gone towards something far more useful, like bent paper clips or defective elastic bands. DO NOT BE TEMPTED BY THE MOVIE BOX. THIS IS A TERRIBLE FILM. The acting is wooden, the audio is worse. You really do not care what happens to the characters. It has already been mentioned that the idea was good, but it was not done right. I agree. The people who made this film did have a good idea and could have done a lot more with it.

Mr. Magoo (1997)
Very, very disappointing
23 May 2000
For a comedy this movie was not very funny. There are more laughs in the original Mister Magoo cartoons. I had high expectations for this film. After all, I usually enjoy Leslie Nielson's work, and the Mister Magoo cartoons are classic fun. However, the script was bad, the pacing was off, the film was a torture to get through. In all honesty, if you feel like Mister Magoo, stick to the cartoons. If you feel like some Leslie Nielson, try a "Naked Gun" or something.

Cry Panic (1974 TV Movie)
A real treat
23 May 2000
This is a thoroughly enjoyable film. The acting is of a high calibre, the elements of suspense are present, and there are just enough twists and turns to keep one interested. John Forsythe, as usual, delivers a strong performance. I truly recommend this little made-for-television gem (and note how it is full of t.v. faces you will recognize from elsewhere, for sure).

Short Time (1990)
A complete waste of time
20 May 2000
I did not enjoy this film at all. Usually I like Dabney Coleman and I saw this movie for sale for only $3.99. Well, that was $3.99 NOT well spent. What can I say? The premise is good, but the movie did not follow through. I watched this movie with three other people and nobody enjoyed it at all. It was not funny (as the cover of the movie box implies), nor heartwarming. As Homer Simpson would say, "BO-RING!" Don't waste your time with this dull film.

An "F" for frightfully bad
20 May 2000
This could be a candidate for one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There it was for sale in the previously viewed section of my local video store. "Hey, I can own this for only $3.99!" For the same price I can buy my favourite brand of dental floss, and likely derive more pleasure from flossing my teeth than watching this mess. This movie was not scary at all, and not one of those "so bad it's good" type either. It was cheap, dull, and I apologize to the others who watched it with me. I am sorry for taking away a few hours of your life that you will never get back.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DREADFUL GARBAGE!!!

Strange Brew (1983)
Excellent satire
15 May 2000
I cannot count how many times I have seen this film, but I never tire of it. It's true, it is a satire of the way Canadians feel Americans view Canadians. Anyone with a brain larger than a peanut will be able to tell you that Canadian culture cannot be summed up in a nutshell by this movie, but it is great fun and not the least bit dated. I recommend this movie for an evening of laughs.

On the Buses (1969–1973)
Only positive things can be said.
24 July 1999
This British comedy realistically portrays the lower-middle class existence. We have Stan, the bus driver, who is approaching middle-age, but still lives at home and helps support his Mum. Living in the same household is Stan's sister, Olive, and her husband, Arthur. Everybody lives together and pools their resources due to economic conditions. The home is a row house, and nothing fancy. This is much more realistic than many comedies of today, where minimum wage earners live in large Manhattan apartments, which only Bill Gates could afford to rent or own.

This is definitely one of my favourite television series of all time. There is not one person in the cast who doesn't belong. Each character brings a unique talent and comedic style which makes this series one of the greatest. Who can ever forget poor, homely Olive and all the ridicule she must endure from her layabout husband, Arthur, and brother, Stan. And then there's Inspector Blake, who must endure his bus driver, Stan, and conductor, Jack(Stan's best friend), who call Blake everything from Dracula to Hitler. Of course, Blake's contempt for his workers doesn't make their life any easier either. I must say that I love British comedies and truly feel that this one is one of the best. I see that videos of the three "On the Buses" movies are available now, as are many of the episodes and I strongly recommend them if you want an evening of wit and entertainment. A rare treat indeed.
