Northfork (2003)
Beautiful yet boring
*SPOILERS*
Amazing cinematography but the story just didn't work for me. In the beginning I thought "wow, I'm going to be challenged". However half way through I thought "wow, this really isn't very good."
There just wasn't any real driving force nor any real emotion to pull me in. And the surreal/reality blending also felt disjointed. If this was a fantasy in the boy's head, how could real-life Woods' see the ghosts (fantasy)? Or, why did the real-life agents carry angel wings (fantasy) and not think twice about it? If they were comfortable with supernatural/fantasy ideas, then Woods' reaction to the ghosts would have been very different, i.e., not freaked out. It just didn't make sense the way reality and fantasy were intertwined, and they didn't do anything with the chars to make me really care about them, so when the boy dies, I didn't feel sad.
Dick (1999)
TERRIBLE.
Dunst tries desperately to capture Silverstone's magic from "Clueless" and fails miserably. Like nails on a chalkboard. The pace of the film flowed like wet cement. The writing was terrible, the "Dick" jokes predictable, the Nixon jokes done to DEATH before, and the story was SO incredibly boring that I almost walked out. However, since I had read some favorable reviews I stayed to see if a miracle happened at the end.
The only miracle was the rolling of the credits.
