Colour Me Kubrick: A True...ish Story (2005)
A misunderstood funny film
I was expecting to see this film for a long time because of the appearance of one of my favorite actors, Robert Powell. When it was released in France this film got many bad critics that nearly stopped me to see this film. I've seen it and now I'm 100% sure that French film critics are stupid and have nothing in their brains.
This film is a fine comedy, but if you laugh with typical American comedy, then you won't find it comic. And people forget that this film is about Alan Conway, NOT Stanley Kubrick! This guy (Conway) just posed as Kubrick, that's all. People who think that the view of the director is to show that Kubrick was homosexual are stupid and blind or simply didn't see the film!! So please understand that this film is ABOUT the guy who posed as Kubrick, THIS IS NOT A FILM ABOUT KUBRICK HIMSELF!!
So the film is OK, I spent a good evening and was pleased to see Robert Powell as the journalist with the nice voice. The cast was excellent, but to me Malkovich overacted and had a disturbing and nasty accent most of the time.
Equilibrium (2002)
Nothing to do with Matrix
I wanted to see this film because I've read somewhere this tagline "Forget The Matrix" so I was very curious, specially because I've never heard about it. I was pleased to see Sean Bean in a very short role, but didn't find a bit of Matrix! It was more like Farenheit 451. Anyway, I liked it, and just please stop trying to find comparisons with Matrix, maybe just the wardrobe if you wish! In any case, I hope nobody is preparing Equilibrium 2, please no sequels!!!It's good as it is
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Wonderful! but...
Being a fan of the books I liked the film, because it's perfectly well done! but there's something I didn't like from the way Peter Jackson adapted the books: he started the trilogy with the 4 hobbits, Aragorn, Legolas, Gandalf and Gimli and he wanted to keep them along the films with even more importance than other REALLY important characters. He forgot that as the story develops other important characters appeared! I think that he did a very stupid thing by ignoring the importance of Faramir (frankly, one of the best characters of the book with the most dramatic story!). I agree with many people that Peter Jackson made many long and unuseful scenes in which he could have developped Faramir's story (specially the love story with Eowyn). He could have cut the end and just finish the movie with the coronation of Aragorn. The rest isn't really important for the people who have not read the book( many people asked what the hell they were taking a boat!!) he could have added the end we saw in the DVD, we don't mind! He can even put a 6hrs film in the dvd's! the fans will appreciate! but I really was very disappointed about Faramir.
Irréversible (2002)
Depressing
As many people here, I've seen this movie just because it was controversial. As many people here I wanted to stop the film after the first 15 minutes, but I don't regret having seeing it. In fact, even it the director's style tries to be "original", is not bad, is really a good job, but very depressing. A good movie is the one you don't forget two minutes after having watched it, I still remember this film, mainly the last scene with Beethoven's music. And this makes me feel more depressed. Time doesn't destroys everything, it's life which destroys everything. What this movie tries to tell you is don't be happy, soon you'll suffer! I also want to say that the rape scene didn't need to be so explicit, it was really a nightmare, it is because when you think that a lot of innocent women have suffered that, and that none is safe from it, it's really depressing! Well, in any case look how she is dressed in such a district! Sincerily, if a girl dresses like that in some way she's putting herself in danger. Too stupid for her two friends to left her alone!
Avalon (2001)
If you are stupid DON'T see it!
I've read the other comments and I really think that movies like this one are not for stupid minds. So, if your brain still works, and if you don't swallow Hollywood films, then you'll enjoy this film. OK, you won't understand it, who cares? that will make you USE YOUR BRAIN and THINK. About the music, it's wonderful, really beautiful. Of course if you like Heavy Metal and Rock & Roll, please don't see this movie, we don't need your comments if they are bad! I would say that this mix of Japanese creation and a Polish team is really excellent. Worth seeing!
