Postal (2007)

Miracles Do Occur

Ladies and Gentleman, Uwe Boll has actually made a movie that I did not turn off after the first 20 minutes! And on top of that, Postal kept me entertained for the entire running time AND even gave me a few good laughs.

Its interesting to me that most of Uwe's movies have been inspired by horror video games (e.g. Alone in the Dark) when in actuality he seems more comfortable with goofiness--otherwise why in the hell would he have cast Matt Lillard in In the Name of the King? Postal is a nice bit of inspired, violent and horribly inappropriate silliness. I'm not sure if that previous sentence even makes sense but it truly is the only way I can think of to describe this movie. What a viewer gets with Postal is basically a send-up of political correctness and, as such, fun can be had watching it.

*Side Note* Just so readers don't think this movie has made me want to join the Uwe Boll fan club I want to mention that the Postal DVD had a preview for Seed...yet another Uwe Boll video-game inspired horror film that looks just awful. I suspect Postal may be the only decent movie he makes. Strange.

Interesting, funny, though-provoking...and scary
29 November 2002
I have never watched a documentary film before, but this one sounded so interesting that I felt I needed to see it. Luckily for me, a good friend of mine felt the same way, so off to the movies we went. I'll tell you, after seeing this movie, I now want to make the documentary my favorite film genre--I'm definitely going to the local Blockbuster to do some exploring. I think this pretty much sums up my reaction to BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE...it was FANTASTIC! This movie provided more entertainment than any 10 other movies I've seen this year. It does what I feel a good movie (or book, or any other entertainment form) should do...it elicited different responses. I laughed much more than I expected to and my jaw dropped on numerous occasions due to sheer surprise. I agree with some of the flaws critics have noted...sometimes Moore does target the wrong people (e.g., going after Dick Clark because a woman who worked at one of his theme restaurants for minimum wage is a mother of a little boy that accidentally shot and killed a classmate). However, this movie will inspire a lot of talk after you see it...I certainly have talked about it with my family, and I'm hoping I inspired them to go see the movie themselves.

A good movie...for distaster-flick fans:)

OK. The genre "disaster film" genrally doesn't mean earth-shattering, brilliant writing. What these movies are all about is the ACTION-something that, i'm pleased to see, the other commenters on this page realize. This movie, i think, has some better writing than others. It sidesteps cliched characters to a certain extent...for example, the mayor is sympathetic and really NOT a mad power-monger. It was refreshing for me to see a person in a position of power in an action movie attempt not to abuse such power for his/her own interests. All the other characters are also appealing...except one. As for the direction, Mikael Salomon truly knows how to stage action...it's all about camera angles. In this film, he uses these to great effect...my personal favorite being the one he uses when 2 characters escape out from under a truck collapsing underground in the nick of time. all-in-all, this is an entertaining movie...and a worthy entry into the disaster-film genre. in fact, i like this better than VOLCANO, a theatrical release from a few years back. i give this movie 3 out of 4 stars.
