Romeo Must Die (2000)
..take Rush Hour, add Jet Li, remove comedy leaving Li action!
I'm a projectionist at a 30 plex in charge of trailers... I'm a huge Jet Li fan thanks to my old boss growing up workin at a arcade he let me borrow my first Jet Li film... FIST OF LEGEND. <dramatic pause>... Ok ever since i've been a Jet Li fan and have been awaiting him to make a big break in American box office. So far Leathal Weapon 4 showed some of his fierceness but not a lot of screentime and Black Mask almost did his first solo American career as well, but still wasn't total true Jet Li. Now in Romeo Must Die, I've been watching the trailers lately and I can't help but get excited to see this film but also laugh about it as well. It just seems odd to me that Jet Li, a serious wushu actor, doing an overused plotline about black gangbangers vs. asian gangbangers. Then throwing in annoying rap/r&b/comedy relief stars to obviously grab the younger crowd to watch which of course will annoy any true Jet Li fan within the theater trin to watch no less. But this chemistry worked well with Rush Hour (granted a very good film), but without the comedy Warner Brothers must feel this will work and with a name like Joel Silver producing it my expectations are a lot higher now. After all Joel was the producer for "The Matrix" and look how that scifi/kung fu film did. All I know is... the film better be a lot better than the current running trailer. It's way too cheezy when you see Jet Li say "now that... was a mistake". I couldn't help but bust out laughing. Not that he spoke but just when I think of Jet Li I think of a man that can face off 1,000,000 warriors and scare them off just by giving them a Bruce Lee trademark "i'm gonna kick your ass with a smile" look and NOT say anything.

Jet Li can act!!! :O
Out of all of Jet Li's films... this one shows off his acting talent than his martial arts. This film focuses way to much on the bland plot which is why your left only to deal with his acting which isn't that bad for someone that went from wushu champion to the acting gig.
Out of all the movies in my Jet Li collection... I don't suggest this one to anyone thats looking for a hardcore fighting film. Granted the last fight scene is very intense but it's only the last 10-15 mins of the film and it's full of patented Jet Li trademarked moves like his belt as a weapon and his hilarious 'bitch slaps' to the face. Most of the film is plot and slapstick humor.

A must see for any martial arts fan, Matrix fan or Jet Li fan!!!
Out of all the films in my Jet Li collection I'd say this film ranks as the highest. Not only is it a remake from the legendary Bruce Lee, but takes the action one step further. Jet Li teams up with fight director Yuen Woo-Ping (The Matrix) for a eyecandy ride of your life. Breathtaking fight scenes that are so intense that you'd tremble in the presense of Jet Li. The film starts out with Jet Li in a room full of opponents and every person that tries to throw a move at him he dislocates one of their joints. Later on... his character has this intense fight with 20 or more people all at once in a Japanese dojo and he kicks their asses so bad that by the time they get back up... he's already tied his shoes back on and heading out the door. This movie totally makes him look invincible and a total badass a la Bruce Lee style.
This is the kind of calibur film that Jet Li needs to make his break in American films. This film has a very HIGH repeat watch value because you'll be showing your friends some of these scenes.
JOEL SILVER!!! PUT THE MAN IN THE MATRIX SEQUELS!!!!
