Quantum Leap: Let Them Play (2023)
Incredibly important episode, maybe feels a tad forced
I've enjoyed this series and was glad to see it return after a break in broadcasts. Also glad to see it's already been renewed for another series.
This episode in particular is incredibly important and in some ways was handled really well but at times felt a tad like the trans acceptance message was being forced or "drummed in" a bit much, which may be a bit too much for some viewers. That said, I'm kind of proud of the show for having the guts to make this episode. It sends a vital message to any trans kids who see it, as well as their families or friends.
Let's all try more to be accomplices, as well as allies.
The Other Half (2022)
Really, REALLY enjoyed this!
This was honestly one of the best shows I've watched in a while! It was funny, well written, really well acted and I just hope they make more than this pilot! It's great to see gay characters on TV who aren't stereotypes and Welsh characters who are not the typical Daffydd & Myfanwy. The central character's Iranian family was such an interesting touch and to see this from the perspective of someone from a mixed-cultured background is really refreshing and new! I would love to see a full series, or even just another couple of episodes of this show as I thoroughly enjoyed watching this pilot on TV.
A Young Man with High Potential (2018)
Incel wet dream
This is a very low budget, almost amateur film that in all honesty flows like an incel wet dream. Very hard to watch and quite poorly written. Felt like an opportunity to subjugate females by a man who was so unsexual that it was the only way he was going to ever lose his virginity. Not sure this film should be allowed as it may give other incel boys ideas...
121: Overcoming Drug Addiction by Faith (2021)
God-bothering mumbo jumbo
People with substance abuse issues need more than bible verses and scripture. This film is very misleading as it makes out that religion - Christian religion specifically - will cure people with drug addiction problems. Why replace one toxic problem in your life with another one?
Running Naked (2020)
I don't often give up on a film but I couldn't finish this one
I don't often give up on a film before the end, it's only happened a handful of times in my whole life. This was one film I just couldn't finish.
The plot seems like a good idea, the people acting in it have been really good in other things. It's Matthew McNulty's character, Mark who I have a massive problem with and who made me turn the film off. He's meant to be a doctor but doesn't behave like any doctor I have ever known. He behaves more like a conman pretending to be a doctor. Don't get me wrong, McNulty did a great job with the script he was given. Just a shame it was a terrible script.
I also have reservations about Andrew Gower, a neurotypical person playing a character with so much neurodivergence. It just didn't sit right
Mulan (2020)
Leading actress with a big mouth
Maybe if the lead actress had kept her mouth shut about Hong Kong, then we may have enjoyed this film. As it was, she decided to defend the Chinese government even though they are torturing Hong Kong citizens!
The Chinese government is responsible for disgusting human rights atrocities and she defends it?!
Shame on her and shame on Disney for hiring her!
5G Zombies (2020)
Terrible, misleading trash
Wow, what an absolute terrible movie and a waste of time.
5G has nothing to do with anyone's health problems - especially stupidity!
Unplanned (2019)
Movie made to spread a message...a flawed one
This movie is based on the real-life experiences of Abby Johnson, who was an administrator at Planned Parenthood and claims that an experience one day of seeing an abortion carried out on an ultrasound screen made her change her whole view on abortion. It's a great publicity point - abortion supporter turns abortion objector - but something doesn't quite add up.
Texas Monthly published an article about Abby Johnson which revealed some quite important points which raise questions as to the accuracy of Johnson's claims. I won't list them here but the article can easily be found online and includes investigative journalism along with a telephone interview with Johnson herself where she admits that she is not even aware of the forms that need to be completed before every single abortion can take place in the state of Texas. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of discrepancies in her account of her "revelation".
What I'm trying to say is, this movie was funded by a Christian pro-life group, based on an account of an ex Planned Parenthood employee which doesn't quite add up so view this with skepticism.
Book Club (2018)
Ouch
Corny jokes, terrible script and sub-par acting from these ladies who can do better
Moonfleet (2013)
Wasted opportunity - all too rushed!
When I heard that Sky were making this as an Xmas special I was very excited but after watching it I am left very disappointed.
The story felt so rushed that at times I wasn't sure if I was watching the actual feature or a trailer with all the action and none of the story. There was no time to build the characters or properly explain what was happening and I think that viewers who are not familiar with the book will be left confused.
This could have been twice as long and should have been in order to tell the story properly.
Whoever is responsible for this mess deserves no less than Blackbeard's curse!
