Sphere (1998)
Excellent Book. Good Movie.
The Sphere starts out as quite a good movie. It has everything needed for a good movie, great cast, good storyline etc.
I have read the book, and frankly, that is much better and scarier than this movie. I have to give credit to the director, he has followed the book very closely(reasonably enough). One of the things most irritating about movies is when they bend the facts. The book was excellent, the movie, of course, can't be compared to the book(like most books which are turned into movies).
The story of the book and the movie is extremely interesting and I feel the author could have added more to it, as it was too short(I finished it in about 6 hours, straight). But some of the things not explained in the movie AND the book are where the sphere came from, what EXACTLY was its purpose(though there is a lot of speculation in the book, they don't reach any fixed conclusion), WAS there any alien force?
**SPOILERS(OF THE BOOK)**
And one more thing, where were the mysterious Navy men who come from nowhere in the book?? They gave me quite a scare, and I think my worst in the book, and I wanted to see them in the movie. But they weren't there. Probably time was short in the movie.
Good movie. Worth seeing. Once.
Poison Ivy: The New Seduction (1997)
Hahahaha
The comments page for Poison Ivy: The New "Headache" should be sent to the humour section of some site. You guys are so funny!! Ok, now to serious business, that is, reviewing the film-hahahahahaha, oops, sorry, couldn't control it.
*I don't know what SPOILERS are, I checked in a dictionary and there is no word such as that. Maybe IMDB are using their own dictionary. Anyway, You better be careful. As I don't know what spoilers are, I may have included some*
Why do people have such a lot of time on their hands? And even if they have, why do they make movies like Poison Ivy, not once, but thrice. Was this movie so much of a success? I hope not.
I only watched the first two movies because of Drew Barrymore and Alyssa Milano. And like those movies, this movie does not know what it wants to be. It has a very confused script but also has beautiful girls :) Actually, the girls are the only reason I watched this film. And for the first time ever, I fell asleep during a movie. They have chosen very beautiful girls(as always) but I don't find Jaime Pressly very pretty. I kind of like the other ones, I don't know their names cause they are completely unheard of. But I would like to hear about them.
Anyway, the movie is pretty much the same as the previous ones, the evil girl keeps killing people and smiling and looking seductively evil. Dead people are found in cars, closets and falling from buildings. Wow! I thought the part 2 was a little unlike the first and the third parts.
If you turn off the volume and watch the film, I guarantee you will enjoy it. Beautiful girls everywhere!!! Its kind of fun too, if you watch it without the volume. But only do so if you have lots of time on your hands, have lost your job, are waiting for your flight, or basically are bored out of your mind and decide to have a little competition with the movie to see whether you were more bored earlier or after watching the film.
I hope they make a Poison Ivy 4 cause it will be fun to see who will be the actress in that.
best of luck to the director!!LOL-gfaaaa hahaha haha hahaha
Before Sunrise (1995)
Wonderful!
Not many films like this exist, which is a pity. The simplicity of this film greatly enhances the beauty of the background surroundings, which incidently are based in Vienna, Austria. The film has hardly any background music, no special effects, but Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy have acted so well, that the film doesn't need any. It is a pity that films like these hardly do well at the box office. This is a very romantic film and romantics will really like it. It leaves a very big impression on you. I kept thinking about it long after it had finished. I saw it late at night, and this film was just starting and I started watching and finally slept at about 8am because i couldnt sleep till it finished.
The ending is very sad, and its probably the ending that leaves such an impression in your heart.
The simplicity of true love, which is the most beautiful thing in this world, is very well pronounced in this film. The passion felt for the other, the urge to give, the simplicity of verbal communication, are acted out beautifully.
I only say that there should be more beautiful movies like this one. Great Expectations was one, also starring Ethan Hawke, and I think that was simply the best movie ever made(though now I may have to change my opinion to two best movies).
But then, as someone has mentioned on this page, if there are too many movies like these, the value of these movies would diminish.
This movie has given me an incentive to visit Vienna, one of the few places I haven't visited. I would like to go there at least once.
See this movie with an open heart and no disturbances and you will surely like it. See it with an action oriented mind, and you will hate it.

Best Men (1997)
Quite good
The movie started out very promisingly and I thought that it was going to be a hilarious comedy. But it turned out to be better than that. The characters of each person have been acted out flawlessly. The setting is good.
I can see why some people did not like it. They expected a comedy and got a drama instead. It has a bit of comedy in it, but I guess people were expecting more. The lines recited from Shakespeare are extremely well chosen and just right for the movie. This, by the way, encouraged me to read Hamlet.
The role of Drew Barrymore is small, but significant. It was quite funny seeing the whole public against the FBI. The ending was quite unexpected.
Anyway, I think that this is a beautiful movie and should be seen with an open mind.
Great Expectations (1998)
Excellent!!!
I first watched this movie when I was at home, getting bored. They had been advertising a lot about this movie and I really liked the dialogue in the rain after Joe finally leaves. I used to see the trailer of this movie, just for that sentence. So, anyway, at first I thought it was some weirdo movie, what with Anne Bancroft all made up like that. The music in this film is excellent and so is the scenery. Anyway, I fell in love with the movie.
Ethan Hawke is absolutely right for the role and so is Gwyneth Paltrow. The core of the book by Charles Dickens is in there too (I read it after I saw this movie, just had to!!). The small English village is there. The background music with the people talking is great.
You know, there is nothing in this movie which tells me why I fell in love with it. I think people should see it once definitely as after that they'll keep seeing it again and again.
The soundtrack of this movie is amazing, specially the score by Patrick Doyle.
I think this movie is a must see for the people who are sentimental at heart.
