The Reef (2010)
Success
Likeable, real characters, and a great cast. No unecessary drama and people yelling at each other. Rather, a bunch of decent people trying g to survive.one may have wished that they would have kept swimming or played still with sharks around, but as a shark survivor myself I can tell you that it's hard to think straight with a shark circling you.
Cancel Nation: How Kind-hearted Women and False Feminists Are Cancelling the Most Liberal Nation on Earth (2021)
Saving feminism
A film the points out how feminism has betrayed the project if equal rights for all women. Instead it romanticizes and promote various illiberal cultures. Women, and women of color in particular, are the victims here. The style is nordic noir and it keeps a good pace with many different interesting people. In particular the story of Iranian born Soheila stands out.
As a bonus we get some experts dismantling the silly notion that gender is a construct. It's a sign of the times that this film is sorely needed. See it.
The Burnt Orange Heresy (2019)
Problematic
First, it has a great opening scene. Main character well played. Nicely shot. However... over-written characters and in the case of the artist over-acted. Pacing is problematic because things get going to latea sub theme of the fly is too much emphasized.
Sweden Dying to Be Multicultural (2017)
proven correct and understated
If you - like myself - have spent some time in Sweden you know that this film is not easily dismissed.
If you don't go, you won't know. Except you can know if you watch the film open-mindedly.
The film makes two simple points: the idea that Sweden would be better off as a multicultural nation with Swedes just being one of many other cultures living in a country with the name of Sweden is questionable. It should be questioned. But those who raise questions are treated poorly. In the most liberal of liberal countries people are afraid to question the wisdom of radically changing the demographic composition.
One has to agree with this: there is something that is questionably, so people should feel free to question it.
Otherwise a great feature of the film is that instead of sensationalism, it calmly presents facts, with clear refences to, in most cases, public statistics collected by SCB, a world renowned institution.
By the way most of the interviewees are immigrants themselves, so its pretty clearly not against immigrants, just against radical policies.
Why so many stars 10, because it has a great sound track, just kidding, it actually does, but more because the journalist in the film clearly has the courage to ask the right questions and make a meaningful film.
