At least there was some mummies, as the title promises...
2 January 2009
I've watched 2 DVD versions of this, first one was Anchor bay UK's version, that I've now lost god knows where (maybe I broke or sold it, can't remember, it was years back now) and the Macady's version, which I think is open matte. Correct if I'm wrong.

But get to the point. The movie is quite awful (well, not as awful as many Bruno Mattei stuff, but we're getting pretty close to that. There's some grave-robbers, who violate the sacred tomb of (what-ever the name was) and gets curse upon them. Also there's annoying filming group, pretty much lack of nudity, they didn't offer much to this already crappy movie.

However, there's a turning point at the ending of the movie, where the ancient legend became truth, and the ending is full of nice-nice splatter (by no-one else but Maurizio Trani). So, if you can bear all the stupidness of the movie about 70 minutes, the ending is definitely worth to seen. Overall, I'll give this movie just a 3/10, reasons I mentioned above.

Quite usual CAT-3 movie
18 November 2007
As I summarized, Rape in public sea is quite usual cat-3 movie. It has all the aspects you can expect: lots of sex and violence and even more sex and violence. Plot is pretty simple too and easy to follow, there isn't many twists and turns there. Action sequences are, besides overwhelmed sex scenes, best that this movie can offer, there's some gunfights with bloody gunshot wounds and then there's nice kung-fu scenes (or what you can call them) too. Actors are all average, direction is fine, and there's really nothing wrong with the movie (if you are into this kind of stuff). There's also some disturbing rape scenes in the movie, which is kind of usual to cat-3 movies too. I know this movie is rarity, but it's worth seeking out for hardcore cat-3 fans. I'll give it a 7 out of 10!

Not as bad as I suspected!
14 September 2005
I have seen plenty of Umberto Lenzi's movies, and I have to admit that I didn't expect much of this movie, because almost all of Lenzi's movies from late 80's and early 90's that I've seen, have been more or less bad ones. But still, being a big fan of his movies, I decided to buy this one on UK DVD and give it a try.

It was late night, when I began to watch it, and I was pretty tired, but I set myself to trash-mode and pressed play. I was right, it was really trashy, but in a quite enjoyable way. Plot was pretty bad, and there was some scenes that made no point, but hey, it's a zero-budget Italian WW2-movie, so I didn't expect anything more. One thing above the others is something that I have to mention here: the musical score by Fabio Frizzi was really nice.

So, if you want to just watch a war movie with great cast, awesome script and billion dollar budget, you'll be definitely disappointed. Otherwise, if you enjoy trashy Italian style stuff, this may be the movie for you.

Not the Lenzi's best, but definitely not the worst either. I'll give "Bridge to hell" 7 out of 10.

Pandora Peaks (2002 Video)
2/10
Different kind of Russ Meyer movie
21 March 2005
There's actually not much to tell about this movie and definitely nothing to spoil. There was no plot, just sequences after sequences where Pandora Peaks gets undressed and dressed again while some music is playing in the background. But, if you wanna see Pandora Peaks naked (you can see every inch of her body in this one) or you're just a die-hard-fan of Russ Meyer stuff (although this one is very different than his real movies), this is the one for you. Otherwise, avoid this one.

I would give it 2 out of 10, and in Russ-Meyer-o'-meter 4 out of 10 (even though this one can't really be compared with his other stuff).

Fantastic pre-giallo from The godfather of gore
28 June 2004
Una sull'altra, which is more likely better known as One on the top the other is hard movie to categorize to a single genre. It has as much erotic and exploitative elements as it has elements from pre-giallos like Mario Bava's excellent Blood and black lace and his older work, Girl who knew too much. It isn't as psychedelic as Fulci's other giallos like Lizard in a woman's skin or as tense as his Don't torture a duckling or Sette notes in nero. Una sull'altra doesn't contain any gore or splatter either. Still, however, I found it very entertaining and I would even say it's one of the best non-gore movies from Fulci I've seen (and trust me on this one, I've seen lots of them too).

Movie follows a basic giallo structure, even though it was made in the same year with "the first actual giallo", Dario Argento's fabulous L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo, and in the way that it doesn't rip-off that movie as many other giallos does. That's why I cannot really say honestly that I found this one to be real giallo, but more like pre-giallo.

What comes to the plot of the movie, it's not really as simple as it might seem, but has many twists and misleads when police are trying to find out how the things really are (who is lying, who is telling the truth). Really nice twists and turns, I couldn't tell at the whole time how did what (and what comes to that matter, even who was who). Ending was really nicely surprising too, I really enjoyed it.

So, if you are bored with Fulci's not as good non-gore movies or if you just want a quick peak to the fantastic world of pre-giallos, One on top of other is highly recommended. At the scale of 1 to 10, I would give it 9, this movie really deserves it.

Not usual Fulci-movie
16 May 2004
I've seen overall 30 Lucio Fulci's movies, horror and non-horror, and have to admit that Devil's honey did surprise me. Many people doesn't like this one, because it's so different than Fulci's better known splatter-movies, but I have to disagree with that. Even though movie differs very much maestro's earlier works like for example Zombie flesh-eaters, Beyond, City of the living dead or even notorious New York ripper, doesn't make it bad. Sure there's different kind of elements involved this time, but movie is still worth to watch.

Basically Devil's honey, as it is titled in most English language countries, is a story of a love and disappointment, which leads eventually to a kidnapping and a torture. It's a story of a disappointed young woman, who kidnaps a doctor who failed to save her boyfriend and who tortures the doctor to the limits to get her satisfactional punishment. There's some sadomasochistic elements involved too, because doctor falls in love with his torturer and starts to enjoy his punishment. Many people see this as a main thing in this movie, but it isn't. Although the story behind the torturing is very simple and little twisted (like many other Fulci movies too), sadomasochism isn't playing the leading role here.

I'll give Devil's honey 8/10 just because it's nice to see that Fulci can handle this kind of erotic thriller as well as his earlier horror flicks. recommended.

Caress of the Vampire (1996 Video)
Lesbian vampires from outer space
24 April 2004
Ok, have to admit that the title of the movie is bit misleading. This movie isn't about the vampires as in horror movies, but lesbian vampires having softcore sex with other vampires and humans. There isn't much of the plot, only few narrating sequences between sex scenes, which are pretty nice. However, endless lesbian scenes gets bit boring after first 30 minutes, because those are always between same characters, three gorgeous looking woman. Still, quite entertaining low budget flick, which is made more for people who like to watch Playboy's movies than hardcore vampire movie fans. I would give Caress of the vampires 2½ out of 5, because I like both genres represented in this movie.

Light Blast (1985)
9/10
The Ultimate B-actionmovie
28 March 2004
Lightblast is quite entertaining movie, in the trashy way. It doesn't promise more than it can offer - it has pretty childish plot, just average actors, characters aren't introduced and there's too much car chasing scenes. Still, I love the way Lightblast delivers the action: it's quite gory and entertaining, like in many other Castellari's movies too. Action and human melting scenes (that are ripped off from the ending of the Raiders of the lost ark) are definitely best that movie offers. Otherwise it's just an another nameless B-actionpack. So, if there's any way you can get hold on this movie (yes, I know it can be difficult) and you like good B-action from early 80's, this is the movie for you. Lucky for me, movie has been released in Finland at the early 80's on VHS, otherwise it would be mission impossible to find. Recommended for all trash-movie fans.

Excellent movie
20 March 2004
I haven't read the book, so it's kind of hard for me to compare this movie with it, but I just loved the movie. Acting performances were truly great, and castmembers really well known by their reputations. I think, this movie wouldn't be this good as it is, if cast has been selected differently: Hopkins is like made for this role, Kidman is brilliant as always and can't really say a bad thing about any other's work too - there wasn't a single person that couldn't fit there. Only one thing that is really worth to complain is that movie is bit too over-sentimental - maybe because director's point of view, maybe because original story - I don't know. Still, however, I would Human stain 8½ out of 10, it's an excellent, entertaining, even touching package that is really worth to watch. Recommended.

Pretty cool italian crime movie
13 January 2004
I was quite surprised after I watched this one. I've seen italian crime movie before too, and they didn't differ from any other crime movies as I had heard. But this one is is certainly exception. Deodato makes a great crime movie with lost of action, good characters and - of course - some gore. Unfortunately version I saw was slighly cutted, not much but as much as it gave me reason to try to find some other version of this movie. Still haven't got any luck with that. But most of gory scenes were there, I just hope this one will be released on DVD in fully uncut version someday.

Overall, I would give this great crime-flick 8½ out of 10. You'll know the reason why, when you view it. recommended!!!

Blue Car (2002)
9/10
Touching new drama
25 October 2003
Well, I have to admit that I'm not really into this kind of movies usually. But with Blue car, I'll make an exception. It's beautyfully drawn drama about young student and her teacher, who encourages her to join the poem contest. Girls has some serious troubles at home, but she manages to get enough money to travel to Florida, where the contest is. She also finds her teacher there, who gets a change to show her his real feelings for her.

Blue car a is strong, very emotional drama. It tells a story of not giving up; not even when everything goes really bad. It also tells how people can imagine their idols, and supporters very different than they really are. After all, we are all people.

Cast is really good too. I didn't recognize any of those by name, but it didn't really matter: they were great in their parts, all the same. So, overall, I would give Blue car what it deserves: 9½ out of 10.

Horrorvision (2001 Video)
Not nearly as bad as I suspected
9 October 2003
When I got my copy of Horrorvision, I was suspecting that no movie can be this bad. Covers were pretty nice, but I had read here and elsewhere, that the movie is just awful. I was wrong. Even though, Horrorvision isn't a masterpiece, and it's pretty cheaply made, it has some atmosphere, especially at the ending, that turned out to be very apocalyptic. And I think that's the whole point of the movie, like one of the main characters say at the ending, "Future is now." Still I have seen much better movies that deals with same kind of things. So, not among best apocalyptic movies, but certainly not among the worst ones either. I would give this Full Moon -flick 2½ out of 5

Case of the mysterious ninjas
6 September 2003
Two old buddies are sent to Japan to get back results of a genetic research containing videotape, which is stolen by the black suited ninjas at the beginning of the movie. First they just have to learn some ninja skill, because "only ninja can beat the ninja."

Sakura killers tries hard to be enjoyable ninja-flick but fails that badly. The whole movie is just so hollow and predictable that is hard to say anything good about it: Same plot has been seen in different variations dozens of times before, characters are too briefly drawn, direction is dull and script doesn't offer anything surprising, even in the ending scene, which by itself reduced movie's (trash)value.

Even 80's ninja-flick-fan, who understands the esthetic of trash-movies, is hard to find this movie even barely enjoyable. It simply doesn't offer anything new to viewer, neither in visual level nor in plot. Shurikens are thrown and katanas are swinging, but it's not enough to lead the movie direction it meant to be and recurred similar fighting scenes numbs even the most calloused viewer after the first 30 minutes.

It's hard to recommend movie to anyone. Even Franco Nero's clumsy performance in "Enter the Ninja" falls behind Sakura killer's American-ninjas. Even in visual level movie doesn't have any balls and it's waste of time to try to find any great fighting scenes in this movie: There isn't any. In all, one of the most futile ninja-flicks, I've ever seen. Doesn't interest even in curiosity. Trust me on this one.

½ out of 10.

Bruce Lee is back, yeah right...
6 September 2003
At the beginning of the movie, Bruce Lee rises from his resting place to kick some butt of bad guys. Although, it hasn't anything to do with the plot, because leading role of the movie is played by (in)famous Lee-clone Bruce Le.

So, Le travels to London to see his old friend, but soon finds out that he has just committed suicide. So, it's up to Le to return to Hong Kong with the package that he is meant to give to man's family. But it doesn't be so easy as it seems to be and thing get pretty rough, when Lee is attacked by mysterious black guy.

The Plot is quite stupid and predictable, characters are barely believable and there is too much talking and circling around. Even the fighting scenes are not as great as in many Le's movies, but had to admit that the slow-motion kicking-scenes are just beautiful to watch. However, there is only few of those.

In all, I'll give this piece of junk 3 out of 10 (I could give even 4, but bad dubbing and quality of the copy I had reduced it to 3). Only for hardcore Le-fans.

Not so sleazy as I expected
3 June 2003
I bought Caligula -Untold story, because I'm huge D'amato-fan, and I've seen couple of other "sequels" to Cuccione's Caligula, like Caligula and Messalina and so on. However, this one wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I had read from many different sources about this D'amato flick, and I got the picture that it would be sleazy same way as Emanuelle in America or even Porho holocaust were. I can't say I'm disappointed of lack of hard core sex scenes in the movie, but it could have been better with them. Even thought, there are many sequences that someone may consider disturbing. Still, I prefer D'amato-flicks like whole Emanuelle-series, Buio omega, Porno holocaust and Erotic nights of the living dead. Even Gemser don't bring the glory in this one (although I must say I'm huge Gemser-fan too). Still Caligula -untold story is far more enjoyable and better all ways than other Caligula sequels.

**½ out of 5 as a movie, *** out of 5 in D'amato-o-meter

average Gemser flick
3 June 2003
I bought this one mainly because there is Gemser in it (is there any other reasons to buy movies like this???), so I didn't expect much of it. In fact, I didn't even know what kind of movie this turns out to be before I viewed it. Well, it turned out to be Italian comedy (some sort of) with sexual content in it. Much of naked ladies, softcore acts and ridiculous plot, which doesn't bother much, because nudity seems to be in a leading role in this one. So, if you like to see Gemser in the shower, in the bed (naked of course) and in various other places without her clothes this one is for you. Not so good as D'amatos Emanuelles, but still watchable.

** out of 5 as a movie, ***½ out of 5 as a Gemser-flick.

Not as giallish as I expected
4 March 2003
I recently watched this movie first time and it hasn't everything that I was hoped for. Plot was too average, with some giallo twists, but too scattered. In one point, I thought movie turns out to be courtroom drama (it reminded me 'Sacco e Vanzetti'). Another thing I'm used to see in giallos is even couple of violent scenes. Lack of those (well there is some violence in the movie, but it isn't very graphical, when compared to eg. Dario Argento's or Lucio Fulci's giallos) made me very actually very unsatisfied with whole movie. Even so, movie wasn't all that bad. Soundtrack was more than nice and ending was very unpredictable. So, overall: 6/10

Rare WIP from Indonesia
9 September 2001
Well, I have to tell you, I'm not a real fan of W.I.P. movies, although I've seen quite many of them. This one is not so good as f. ex. 'Bare behind bars' or 'Bamboo house of dolls', but I've seen worse movies than this one too. I've heard this is quite rare one too, so if you like to watch women tortured by nasty men, this one is for you.

Not so bad as I thought..
20 July 2001
When I saw the Exterminators of year 3000 at first time, I had no expectations for that movie. Although, it wasn't so bad as I was thought. It's kind of Italian version of Roadwarrior, with cast, that is almost famous in Italy, including Venantino Venantini. Behind the story is Elisa Briganti and Dardano Sacchetti, who are also responsible for story of Zombie flesh-eaters. You can also see other links to Italian horror movies: Luca Venantini plays the role of Tommy, and you can see that kid in Paura nella citta dei morti viventi (City of the living dead AKA Gates of hell) as John Robbins and in Cannibal apocalypse as the role of Mary's brother. Quite entertaining movie, with some dull parts.

Psychological thriller with balls
5 July 2001
First time I saw this movie, I was just amazed. How can anybody make this kind of movie, and I've never heard of it? Well, there can be many reasons for that, but although I was the movie second time recently. I remembered lot of it, but it didn't spoil any of the atmosphere of the movie. It still rocks. Gory parts are still beautiful (in full length version) and the ending was still as shocking as it was when I watched it first time (well, almost). Recommended, hell yes!

Mainly enjoyable piece of trach
5 July 2001
When I bought this film, I didn't expect anything like this. It cost me almost nothing, and I thought the person who sold me that, just wanted to get rid of it. Well, maybe I'm right about that one, but It's still worth to watch. Special effects weren't so good, as they were in Amityville 2: possession (which is best film on Amityville-series), but they weren't so bad either. Actors were fairly good too, and only lack in the film was the plot. It seems like makers of that movie had ran out of ideas and ending if the movie isn't so good as it could be. Still, it has its moments. (Did you have noticed, who is acting in part of John Baxter's daughter's friend...?)

Dumb Zombiemovie is still one of Franco's best ones
19 June 2000
First time I saw 'Oasis of the zombies', I felt so bored, that I was almost in sleep. But the second time was much better. I even noticed some things, that I didn't at the first time. And the plot was better too. Althought bit of dumb, but still very enjoyable movie.
