Kidnapped (1995 TV Movie)
5/10
Did the director ever read the book?
15 January 2002
What a shame that the movie, while being excellent in its own right, has absolutely nothing to do with the original book by Stevenson. Aside from the names and places, only about 5% of the novel made it into the movie. As a fan of the book and some of the older versions of the movie, I was horrified by the amount of information in the film that was 'made up'. While I'm sure it was all accurate for the time period, very little of what occurred in the film ever happened or was even alluded to in the book. If you completely ignore the fact that the movie is based on a book this film is very enjoyable and exciting however I disagree with the re-writing of this classic just to make it into a more compelling tale.

Roar (1997)
Wishing for More
4 December 2001
I was facinated by this series. I found the premise well-thought out and for the life of me I can't understand why public response wasn't stronger. I think now that Heath Ledger has done some major motion pictures in the Us they should run Roar again and see if it catches on; even if they never make any more episodes I really think all the people who worked on this show deserve a second chance. Perhaps the timeing wasn't right the first time but re-running it is an idea with serious merit.

I'm not for sure how many episodes there were since I used to tape the shows and watch them again and again. If there was a way to see the Roar again I would do it.

Save your money!
3 December 2001
I only spent 1.03$ to see this film and still somehow felt that it was time and money wasted. Trying to figure out the plot was such a struggle that after a while I gave up and spent my time making fun of it. The idea is intriguing, I'd always wanted to see Connor and Duncan duke it out, but having to put up with soap opera between Duncan and Kate/Faith was not worth it at all. Adding the watchers was a good choice, getting to see Methos was fun. I was confused by the concept of Sanctuary even thought I'm familiar with the plots of the Highlander movies and the series. Also the kung-fu style fighting choreography when Kell's men storm the Sanctuary is seriously lame. Unless you are a die-hard fan or extremely bored I would not recommend this movie. Duncan's wry humor attempts to uplight the leaden plot but it does little to distract the viewer from the reality that what it would take to save this film is more than better editing. Endgame should have been better conceived right from the start because whatever they came up with originally must have become hopelessly diluted in special effects. I belive there is no way a story as bad as the one presented would have have been accepted as a motion picture project and possible money maker had the screenplay started as poorly as it ended up. Stick with the series, its the best.

Magical Muggle-Free Romp
19 November 2001
Considering I read the book a year ago, I was amazed at how much the movie seemed like what I had imagined while reading it. I was impressed by the clarity of the plot and the nearly perfect scenery that was breathtaking and exactly what the movie called for. One of the high points of the film is the wonderful Hermione Granger, the teachers pet and the makings of an outstanding wizard, she appealed to me more so than any other character. Not that the other actors weren't perfect choices, but she seemed to be the ideal child to embody Rowlings character. Overall I was impressed and dazzled by the entire film, I found myself laughing and clapping my hands with glee as the English train station became platform 9 3/4. Even people who haven't read the book will find themselves wishing for just one day at the magical children before them. The fantasy and the excitement of it all is tangible and desirable for all movie viewers. I would recommend this film to anybody.

Akira (1988)

Read the Book
19 November 2001
I saw the movie first and then I read the book. Please don't judge the series by the movie because the first graphic novel is excellant and worth your time. I had been told that this was an excellant film that all anime lovers should see but after watching it I was confused and left wondering if I hadn't totally understood the plot. Reading the book made everything clear, not only is it an excellant story but it made me realize just how badly the movie fails at retelling the story of the powerful child Akira.

Cute
19 April 2000
Hunchback of Notre Dame was a cute movie, I was old enough to appreciate the political humor ("She ran, I pursued" as a comment on recent police actions) and gorgeous art and also young enough to be interested in this basic retelling of the original classic. As a big Disney fan i liked this movie but found it a bit scary in places, the Hellfire scene was particularly not suitable for young children. Beyond that, the characters are delightfully witty, especially the gargoyles.

So Scary!
12 April 2000
I loved how creepy this movie was. Not all blood and guts but lots of slow building suspense and inescapable fear. It was a blast, I was exhausted from being frightened not just by the movie but also by my friend who repeated grabbed my arm in fear. It was a great ride.

Read the play
12 April 2000
I enjoyed this movie but that is only because I understand the original play was well. I grasped the subtleties of the text and I think in many ways I helped me better appreciate this production. Even if you did like the movie that is no excuse for reading the original. I can tell that some sections were cut. If they weren't important Shakespeare would not have left them in.

Good for TV.
12 April 2000
I really liked this movie. I think because it was on TV I didn't expect it to be as good as if it had been a larger production. I would like to see it again because the weak plot lost me in several places. Still, it was good entertainment and heck it was free.

Little Buddha (1993)
Visually impressive fairy tale for adults
12 April 2000
I really enjoyed Little Buddha and own a copy so I can watch it whenever I am in the mood. I know Keanu Reeves is not known for his acting ability but I felt he did a fine job, at least in comparison to his previous work. I felt the retelling of the story of Siddartha through a child's picture book was very intriguing. I wouldn't suggest this movie to everyone as the visual effects to mask a slow, but steady plot.

Legend (1985)
Entertaining Eye Candy
12 April 2000
I enjoyed this movie as a child because Darkness really scared me. Now, I still enjoy the movie, but more for its fairy tale quality and scenery. I love how the whole film has a hazy, almost dreamlike quality that allows you to believe more readily in this magical world. Tom Cruise is excellent. My favorite scene is that of Jack diving into the lake to fetch Lily's ring. I like to pause the tape and just stare at the beauty of the image, so wonderful and happy. Even in the corny parts you still want to believe that its all real.
