Delightful !!!!
5 July 2000
First I'll be very honest: I am a huge fan of Claire Forlani since "Meet Joe Black". So I went after reading great and awful things about it. Well I would say it's nice to see a good, light, nice, cute film where the "f" word is not in each and every scene(Hope you'll read this, Mr Singleton with all due respect), where there aren't 2500 gun shots per second and where real human feelings are actually present all along. I think anyone who's been in such a relationship can totally relate to this film. Some people will reproach Jason Biggs role that feels too close from "American pie" and yes that's the movie main flaw but no movie is perfect and this one has not been produced for next year's academy award race. Also what really did surprise me was the great chemistry between Forlani and Prinze Jr. that you can definitely feel. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but the ending(even though predictable)is original and very very funny. It's nice to see a film where you sit, relax, enjoy yourself without having to expect the "impossible" and just experience it for what it is: Fresh and Heart warming. Wasn't that what "When Harry and Sally" was all about ?.

What a disappointment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 July 2000
I was going with very high hopes especially after seeing the trailers, and what a joke !!. there is(once again)nothing new. And to top it all, there are re-doing the cable scene from the first movie. There is not one character that we care about about and the soundtrack is awfull. The stunts are okay, but should I mention it, we know Mr Woo's style so could you please stop filming flying guys shooting at everything ?. We already saw "face off" and all your other films. Please innovate next time ! Has Hollywood eaten you up already ?. There are so few movies this summer that are worth seeing. Please Hollywood give us something new for a change or is it too much to ask ?.

Bruckheimer's first "faux pas"
2 July 2000
Being a fan of Jerry Bruckheimer's previous productions(Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon), I never left a theater disappointed by one of his films but I guess there is a first time for everything. "Gone" is long, boring for the first 90 minutes and then you wake up with a big car chase until the movie ends. There is your typical "cop " who wants the "bad guy" badly(Haven't we seen that concept a zillion times already ?.) Angelina Jolie's character is unfortunately as empty as the scenes she appears in. Once again, Giovanni Ribisi is cast as a "bad boy"(What a waste of talent) and Robert Duvall sounds like he is extending his role from "Days of Thunder". Let's hope that the reunion Bruckheimer-Michael Bay for the 2001 release of "Pearl harbor" will make us quickly forget this "faux pas".

Shaft (2000)
Sorry, didn't see anything to "shout" about !!
2 July 2000
I was expecting so much from Paramount for this remake and what a disappointment !!. I am not saying it's a bad movie or anything, but there is NOTHING we haven't seen already. It's perfect for the video and cable market and that's about it. Samuel L. Jackson gives a fine performance but nothing to "shout" about there either. Vanessa L.Williams is almost non existent. Christian Bale is also fine but I already saw "American Psycho", thank you. And to make matters worse I personally cannot stand a movie where the "F......" word is standard in each and every scene. A waste of time and money.

Titan A.E. (2000)
Sensational!!: What"Episode 1" should have been.
2 July 2000
This is the ONE I have been waiting for. A true animated science fiction epic that left me breathless. I used to read a lot of science fiction comic book but never did I see one on the screen. Well Fox animation and Don Bluth have done it again and it just means that Disney is not the only capable force out there that can produce masterpieces. After the beautiful "Anastasia", they are now bringing science fiction into the world of animation and did a magnificent job. Lots of people are criticizing the script and all the "Star Wars like" scenes. Well people, remember that EVERYTHING has already been done but no one has had the guts to do what TITAN A E is: A fantastic science fiction animated epic for both kids and adults !!. This is what "Episode 1" should have been. I loved it and can't wait for the video to come out. Just go ahead and have a blast !!!!. And Disney, remember, you are no longer alone out there.

Chicken Run (2000)
The perfect summer movie for the entire family.
2 July 2000
I am a huge fan of "Wallace & Gromit" and this time "Aardman animations" really did push the envelope and the result is nothing short of astonishing. You forget instantly you're looking at claymation characters and are plunged in the coolest, funniest, "great escape" ever !!. The reference of Steve Mc Queen as a chicken is probably the most unforgettable sequence of the whole show but there are so many others as well. I just loved it and will see it again !!. There are lots of disappointing movies this summer, well this one surely isn't one of them !!!.
