Cheap and lowcost long advertisement
22 February 2022
Besides a few archives, you will be able to see sometimes over 6 times the same illustration shot ! Many shots used and used and reused, illustrative shots done clearly somewhere else of Everest. The sadest moment of this poor produced long advertisement with nothing new about Everest or it's story is when a man is explaining how sad and tragic it is to see so many people and sherpas dead with a light and joyful music on the top of it. What a bad choice and how insensitive it was. Top mention for the two White mountaineers when already back in 1953, Sherpas were completely put aside and made invisible by Western countries and societies. In overall, it looked like a long bad produced advertisement with same shots over and over again and with no consistency at all.

It's not on Irvine's body. It's a scam from spoiled guys robbing NatGeo.
11 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I read other reviews and thought they were a bit harsh but in the end, they are not far from what I could see.

Very nice cinematography with a starting point that was really interesting. It changes throughout the film from a search for a dead body to rewriting History (quite interesting) to self indulgent white males spitting on everybody else who think differently than them and who praise the fact that too many people in line and traffic jam on Everest is normal and good. Then, while you could focus again on Irvine search, the audience has to go through the trauma of a crying old man that sees his dream of summiting Everest disappear because he had a stroke on location. He's not whining because he can't search Irvine, he's whining because of his selfishness.

In the end, yep, the starting point was appealing. The result is a great deception.

Plus: Cinematography and Archives.

Minus: Self indulgent old white males whining and complaining during all the film instead of doing what they were supposed to do on location.

In the end, it's not on a search for Irvine's body, it's about spoiled old white male trying to get sponsored for free by NatGeo to summit Everest for their own pleasure and pride. It's so big you can't miss it.

Beautiful music and clothes
26 July 2004
The music is excellent. Of course. The clothes are designed by Vivienne Westwood. They only can be beautiful. Besides these facts, the movie won the Best Picture Award at the Swiss Film Prize. I found the story sometimes boring and quite long. On the other hand, the actors are all doing a great job. One last comment about the madness-and-"gayness" of one character. It could actually be taken out of the plot: it's too much and doesn't bring anything to the movie, to my point of view...

Asambhav (2004)
A bit too much...
26 July 2004
Well, besides the great views of Ticino and Locarno, Switzerland, the movie has a recurrent theme: Kashmir and Indo-Pakistani War. Besides the fact that Arjun Rampal is doing a good performance, I found pretty hard to understand who had the money, who finally is good and bad, and why there are so many changes in the gangs' composition. I kind of was lost but enjoyed watching it. It's action, action, action and lots of blood. Well, it's not Devdas or Yuva. But the mix between Bollywood and the famous scene in Switzerland is well done.
