True enuff, this was more of a rap-music video than a movie, but I kind of liked the cinematography, particularly since Steven Soderberg is recently being lauded; meanwhile Hype Williams used some of the same stop-motion/music video effects that Soderberg used in Out of Sight, which wasn't all that much of a better movie than this. I also don't agree with the analogies to a gangster movie, since the characters scattered like rats on a sinking ship when the s*** came down, not much of a so-called "gang". They were all in it for themselves, no allegiance to a gang. There's no sense in comparing this movie to Goodfellas, as the content/storyline was far different. The ending was kind of preachy, I guess the director was trying to send some sort of a message, but it was kind of too late. It was dark and confusing at times, but I found a highlight in the character played by Method Man. He was understandable(if thats a word, lol) to me, and if anyone has spent anytime with someone from the Islands they will know. It was good that they didn't water down his accent and play it up like some kind of a Bob Marley rip-off. Certainly not in league with New Jack City or Boyz N the Hood. Nothing that I would pay full price for in the movie theater, but on cable not too bad.

I seen this at the video store but passed it by because I thought it was the typical Sarah Michelle-Melissa Joan-Freddie Prinze-Katie Holmes type of romantic comedy. I didn't realize it was a British movie(otherwise I might have given it a second look at the video store) and caught it on cable. I was pleasantly surprised by the acting. I liked the fact that it didn't go the typical sex route, although I didn't think about that until the movie was over. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a British film, it seemed more in the Hollywood vein, not as dark and gritty as a lot of British cinema. The mood of the film was cheerful, upbeat and somewhat witty. I particularly liked the technique of going back in the story to fill in the gaps of the storyline. It reminded me of an old fashioned type of movie; and I have to admit the lead actress did remind me of a Julia Roberts type. Very entertaining.

I seen this on cable, never hearing of Christian Bale before. Once I started watching it I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Very well acted, particularly Christian Bale. It was totally believeable and moving. The underlying message of not hurting animals was very redeeming. The evil stepfather was very convincing and not camp at all. John Hurt's recluse was excellent as usual. The innocence and purity of Christian Bale's character opposing the "Fat" was classic and very well done. The scenery of rural Cornwall was gorgeous, it makes me want to go there and see it one day. This movie makes me want to see more of Christian Bale's work.

Somehow I missed this when it came out at the movies, I don't think it was publicized enough! This was a fast-paced, funny and uplifting story. I found the behind the scenes world of television production reminiscent of Broadcast News, with the hectic pace and career-driven personalities. Patti Lupone's "do anything for ratings" character was outrageous! Rosie Perez was excellent as a television producer juggling career and a new baby, set in the NY media market. The movie's pace was quick and it was over before I knew it. If you liked Baby Boom, Working Girl or Broadcast News this is a good movie for you.
