The Wire (2002)
Warning - As Dangerously Addictive As Crack Cocaine
Like an all time classic album, it takes a little while to get into. After 4 or 5 episodes your hooked, like a drug fiend hunting red-tops. You start to consume more and more of the wire, maybe skipping work, playing less with the kids, leaving the housework. After four gruelling seasons it spits you back out, but your sitting alone, rocking back and forth wanting more, waiting for the re-up. Lost and 24 are ruined forever, they cant come close. Now you call your kids youngns, and your constantly reaching for your whistle........
In Season 5 of the Sopranos, where the opening scene in the first episode mirrors the last scene of the series, I thought TV couldn't possibly get any better.
I was wrong.
Little Miss Jocelyn (2006)
Very very funny
If you live in London, then you've probably "met" a lot of these characters. I'm not entirely sure that you would get a lot of it otherwise. Its strange because I didn't really like her previous show, "3 Non Blondes" much at all. Certainly one of the best attempts that I've ever seen to bring comedy with a more ethnic flavor to television. I'm not saying that its the best thing since "Father Ted", "Spaced" or "In The Thick of it" and not every sketch works, but for what it is I think it does very well and some sketches are very close to the bone (eg: the African nurse who kills the chicken in her office!)
Check it out. "Save yourself"
The Village (2004)
Scooby Doo - This film is poo.
I like slow intelligent atmospheric films with no action sequences.
eg: Dont Look Now, Dark Water, The Sixth Sense, Donnie Darko
I have to say on first viewing this film is rubbish. Good atmosphere in some places, but ultimately it's complete rubbish and you should stay well clear.
If the plot seems familiar - that's because you saw it on an episode of Scooby Doo when you were ten years old.
STAY CLEAR OF THIS VILLAGE
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Always watch a film twice
Saw a while ago at the cinema, thought it was OK. Just seen again on DVD and realized that it is absolute trash. Yes its better than Episode 1, but this shows just how bad that film was.
Wooden acting, abysmal plot. The "love" scenes must be forwarded to survive viewing. It makes the original episodes look like "The Godfather" in terms of cinematic depth. Maybe this was Lucases intention.
Perhaps I have got the wrong end of the stick and it is a film for 10 year olds.....but isn't the excellent Shrek?
2/10
Alien Resurrection (1997)
Life's too short for bad films - but this isn't one of them!!
I cannot understand why there are so many bad comments in here about this movie. Its like people were watching a different film altogether. Incredible as it may seem, perhaps it is too "high brow" for some people. Its also quite interesting to see how many people rate Aliens as superior to Alien.
For reference, here are examples of bad films : MI2, Swordfish, Lock up
Not an all time classic, nonetheless a highly entertaining movie. 7/10
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Viewing : Impossible
This is a series of meaningless explosions and impossible stunts crudely connected together by a wafer thin "plot" - to try and justify by saying this is "only an action film" simply wont wash. The look and production quality of the film are its only saving graces.
I really, really, tried to "switch my brain off". But it just would not shut down to a level where it could connect with this film.
Although he delivers some cracking one-liners, Anthony Hopkins looks completely disinterested.
