Clean Pastures (1937)
Spoof on "Green Pastures"
This 1937 Merrie Melodies short is one of the Censored 11. Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, Jimmie Lunceford, and Louis Armstrong as angels, they go down to Harlem and bring back some folks to heaven (I still don't understand this). Cameo by Al Jolson as he walks into a nightclub singing "I Love to Singa"
WWF Survivor Series (1993)
This one was rearranged too much
First off, the main event was supposed to be Lex Luger, the Steiners and TATANKA vs. Yokozuna, Ludvig Borga, Jacques and PIERRE. For reasons that I don't know, Tataka was "injured" and replaced by the Undertaker, and Pierre was taken out to make room for Crush. I am guessing that the reason is that the Undertaker was one of the biggest superstars in the WWF and they needed to put him somewhere (sort of a setup for the 1994 Royal Rumble match: Undertaker vs. Yokozuna), while they possibly put Crush in to try to get him to become more of a "bad guy" (he had just turned heel after being a face).
The first match was supposed to be Razor Ramon, Mr Perfect, Marty Jannetty, and the 123 Kid vs. IRS, Diesel, Adam Bomb and Rick Martel, but due to injuries, Mr. Perfect was replaced by Macho Man Randy Savage. The WWF did not make this clear until just before the match began.
The whole family feud began when Jerry the King Lawler insulted the Harts and this set the match between Lawler and his Knights vs. 4 Hart brothers, but weeks before the Survivor Series Lawler took some time away from the WWF and they used Shawn Michaels in his place, and acted as if Lawler never existed!
Another funny thing about this match is that only 3 of the 8 participents were WWF superstars at the time! Keith and Bruce Hart had a 1 time deal, and the 3 Knights (Greg Valentine, Barry Horowitz and Jeff Gaylord) only did this one time with the gimmicks to my knowledge.
Funny thing about the match advertised as 4 Doinks vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastian Booger and Headshrinkers is the fact that no Doink was involved. The Bushwackers and Men on a Mission fought this match wearing Doink masks and make up!
I'm not going to spoil the results for you, but I will say that I don't think that this was the greatest Survivor Series. But, hell, this IS a WWF Survivor Series, and i give it a 9 out of 10!
WWF Survivor Series (1990)
Another one of the best WWF events ever
This event was great, and had some of the greatest gimmicks here. In the opening match we have Mr Perfect (with Bobby Heenan) and Demolition (Ax, Smash and Crush with Mr Fuji) vs. Ultimate Warrior, Texas Tornado, and Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal). This was during the time that Ax was on his way out and Crush was on his way in, when Demolition was a 3 man team. I thought that was pretty cool.
Then we have Dusty Rhodes, Hart Foundation and Koko B Ware vs Million Dollar Man (with Virgil), Rhythm and Blues (Honky Tonk Man and black-haired Greg Valentine with Jimmy Hart) and the Undertaker (with Brother Love). This is the event where the Undertaker was introduced to the WWF and this is his first match ever. Here, Brother Love is he chubby manager/boss, before Paul Bearer.
The next match is Jake the Snake, the Rockers and Jimmy Snuka vs. Rick Martel, Power and Glory (with Slick) and the Warlord (with Slick).
Then we have Hulk Hogan, Tugboat, Big Boss Man and Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Earthquake (with Jimmy Hart), Dino Bravo (with Jimmy Hart), Haku (with Bobby Heenan), and Barbarian (with Bobby Heenan). Rick Rude (who had a world title shot at Summerslam just 3 months earlier) was scheduled to be on Earthquake's team, but he quit the WWF before this event took place. He was replaced by Haku, another Heenan family member. This is during a period where the entire Heenan family was feuding with the Big Boss Man.
The next match is Nikolai Volkoff, Bushwackers and Tito Santana vs. Sgt Slaughter (with General Adnan), the Orient Express (Sato and Tanaka with Mr Fuji) and Boris Zukov (replacing Akeem). I am no sure why Slick's man Akeem did not appear at this event, he was a no show at last year's Survivor Series also. Boris Zukov replaces him (I didn't know Zukov was still in the WWF at this time!) Zukov was once managed by Slick, too, so I am not sure why Slick does not appear with him here.
We then have Mean Gene with the hatching of the Gobbledy Gooker (a gimmick played by Hector Guerrero) This was the only appearance of the Gobbledy Gooker until Wrestlemania X-7 in 2001.
The last match feature the the good guy survivors from the previous matches against all the bad guy survivors from the previous matches, so this match was Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Tito Santana vs. Million Dollar Man, Rick Martel, Power and Glory and Warlord. 3 vs 5. In all, this event was one of the best WWF pay per views ever and I give it 10 out of 10
WWF Survivor Series (1989)
One of the best Survivor Series ever
This 3rd Survivor Series was the first one to feature 4 on 4 matches, rather than 5 on 5. I like it both ways, but the Survivor Series were way better and more entertaining then than any have been in the past few years. The first match is Dusty Rhodes, Brutus Beefcake, Red Rooster (newly turned good guy) and Tito Santana vs. Big Boss Man, Bad News Brown (subbing for Akeem), Rick Martel and Honky Tonk Man. This match was one of the best of the night, with Dusty Rhodes in those polka dots. In my opinion, Dusty vs. Bossman is a good match up. I am not sure why Akeem did not appear, so if anyone who reads this knows please e-mail me to let me know. I think that the outcome might have been different had he been there.
The next match is Macho Man Randy Savage, Dino Bravo, Earthquake (subbing for Barry Windham) and Greg Valentine vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Bret Hart, Ronnie Garvin, and Hercules. I really didnt think this one was as cool as the first, but I thought it was cool to see the Dream Team (Greg Valentine and Dino Bravo) together again for this one match. Again, I am not sure why Barry Windham did not appear and I would like to know if anyone knows.
The middle match was billed as the main event, with Hulk Hogan, Jake the Snake and Demolition Smash and Ax vs. Ted Dibiase, Zeus and the Powers of Pain. I thought the team of Hogan, Snake and Demolition looked pretty good together, but the match was pretty dull considering 3 of the 4 'bad guys' were disqualified rather than beaten by the fan favorites.
The next match has Roddy Piper, Jimmy Snuka, and the Bushwackers vs. Mr Perfect, Rick Rude and the Rougeau Brothers. Good match in the second half, unfortunatly the Rougeaus and Bushwackers are just a waste of time at first.
The last match of the night (and the best) is Ultimate Warrior, Jim Neidhart and the Rockers vs. Haku, Arn Anderson, Andre the Giant (who is counted out right when the match starts) and Bobby Heenan. It was cool to see Heenan wrestling again, and I think it was a great idea to have him replace Blanchard when he was fired before the event. I also believe this is Arn Andersons last WWF match. I rate this tape 10 out of 10
