Judas Kiss (1998)
John Rebus goes American
I admit it;I bought this movie because Alan Rickman is in it, and I'm a huge fan of his. But I was surprised by the whole film. I got a little worried when the first scene I saw was a lesbian porn-movie, but that was soon forgotten. The plot is good, and I was totally into it from the first minute. The camera's been used to give you a kind of stressed feeling, and I think I got a little stressed with the characters. This movie left me staring blankly at the screen first time I watched it, and I wasn't sure what I'd just seen. Now that I've seen it a couple of time, though, I think it's a great film. I couldn't help but notice how much Rickman's character, David Friedman, resembles John Rebus (books by Ian Rankin). The same sarcastic, dry humor. Old battered car. Divorced, one daughter. Likes to do things his own way, and doesn't let a beating stop him. The only thing I slightly disliked about this movie was that you felt like you were thrown into the last episode of a tv show, not knowing what had been going on before. I felt there should have been more both before and after. But in the end, that's the charm of the film. You're thrown into it, and before you know it it's over and you're left wondering what the hell just happened. I recomend this one. Really recomend it!
Encino Man (1992)
This rocks!
Honestly, I love this movie. It's so funny, and it's cute too. And I love the way they kick Matt Wilson's butt... anyone who's ever been, er... not cool, knows exactly how Dave feels. Brendan Fraser seems to have a "thing" for that "tribal-man" thing, huh? He's great though, he makes me laugh every time. And Sean Astin is brilliant, you really feel sorry for the guy. As for Pauly Shore, don't even get me started! He ROCKS! They all do, the film is just great!
A Knight's Tale (2001)
WOW!
I loved this film. It's got everything I like in it. The jousting (??) was exciting, the characters were great (love Wat, so funny) and the actors played them splendidly, the locations looked fab... I could go on forever. And my favourite part? The lovestory, of course. Just my kind of story.
My fave scene is the one where William comes back to visit his father in London. It makes me cry every time. I sat down to watch just that scene on my DVD, and I still cried. Really, this movie is GREAT!
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
I was enchanted
This is by far the best film I have ever seen. I'm gonna tell you right away; I haven't read Lord of the Rings (working on it now though, and loving that too) but I soon learned that I had been missing out on something great.
Anyway, the film. From the first scene to the last I couldn't take my eyes of the screen. Everything about this movie was stunning. The landscape was perfect, the actors were superb and there was never a dull moment. While we were taken down into mines and up to the top of towers, I got a feeling I was actually soaring.
My mark for knowing that I really love a film, is that I remeber certain scenes from it. With this one, I remeber practically everything! I can play any scene I like in my head (allmost) and I'm counting the days 'til "Two towers", which I don't dubt will be just as good. I just hope I can finish the book in time:)
My fave scene would have to be Frodo beeing re-united with Bilbo at Rivendell. And also, when Sam jumps into the sea to follow Frodo to Mordor...gotta love that Sam.
If you haven't gone to seen this film in at the cinema yet, you better get your butt over there coz you have no idea what you are missing! Even though I'm gonna buy it on video, I am certain that it will be nothing like the thrill I had of watching it on a big screen. But honestly, go see it...what, are you still here????
Wonder Boys (2000)
What a film...
I watched "Wonder Boys" just two days ago (mostly coz I wanted to see Robert DJ play someone else than Larry Paul) and I thought I didn't like it. But then I stumbled upon it again just a few hours later, and I found myself knowing a lot of the lines. I usually never remember lines, unless it's a film I really like. My point here is that this is a film that you have to think about. I figured it would be funny, but instead it was very confusing. I'm not saying I didn't like it (let's face it, best film I've seen since Moulin Rouge!), it just really confused me. Michael Douglas was great in this one. So was Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire. Anyone who's ever wanted to become an author should watch this film, coz in between all the itrigue there's a lot of good tips.
Friends & Lovers (1999)
What a mess, what a mess, what a mighty big mess...
Gees, what a film. Basically, a lot of friends (and enemies?) on a skiing holiday togheter. The result of the film is pretty much that all the wrong people end up in bed together. You wouldn't think this would make a good film, but it does! At least I think so. It's a complicated movie, but still it doesn't require much thinking. (hm...) Most of the thinking cosists of trying to keep all the different characters apart.
Personally, I think this is a basic case of "we're-on-holiday-so-we-can-do-what-we-like" and maybe it's not the best plot ever. Still, you can't help but enjoy it when Claudia's character dumps her arrogant, but good-looking, boyf. for Robert DJ's rather silly (but charming) character. Sends out a message that looks don't really matter. Any guy (or girl) who's ever wanted anyone "outta their league" probably feels the same way.
So, in my opinion, a GREAT film... Sorry other people don't feel the same way.
