An unforgetable film. Brought back so many memories e.i. my dad(Deniro)

The bath tub love scene between Ron O'Neal and Sheila Frazier with the background music of Curtis Mayfield("Gimme Your Love") is the most erotic, tastefully done love scene that I have ever witnessed!

I Loved this Depression Period film. In my opinion the best film Bronson ever made. James Coburn gave the film rhythm...Strother Martin gave it soul with a touch of perversity and Bronson gave it the "Shane" type heroism we all love. The bald fighter and the fighter dressed in black were truly menacing but showed a code of fairness. The ending was most special to me when Chaney(Bronson) shared his winnings with Coburn(Speed) and Martin(Poe). Coburn couldn't understand the gesture but respected a "Player" when he saw one.

This film is one of my all time favorites. Along with "How Green Was My Valley" it's one that always brings a tear no matter how many times I view it. The entire cast was superb. I disagree with comments that James Dunn was too old. He was just 40 at the time 13 years older than Dorothy Mcguire. Lolyd Nolan was 43 and Joan Blondell 39. The part where he sings "Annie Laurie" showing all the mixed emotions of love and hurt in his face and voice is extremely touching and reveals his frustrations. Great acting!

This film brought Morgan Freeman to my attention for the first time. After, I became a devoted fan. The "scissor scene" between he and Kathy Baker was absolutely chilling and a tribute to both actors. I was mesmerized. The love scene between Christopher Reeves and Baker was sensuality personified.
