My Dog Skip (2000)

Delightful
30 May 2002
Having lost my cat only a week ago, this was the most perfect film I could have watched.

I have never seen a film touch on the bond between a human and animal so well as My Dog Skip. I remember when this was released in the cinema, I had no interest in seeing it, as I thought it was going to be about a quirky dog and all the hilarious things he gets up too etc. How wrong was I?

This film has totally hit a spot within me. I cried towards the end, not just because of the content of the film, but because of what it had to say. This film had the most beautiful message. Two spirits joining together to form a wonderful bond.

I love this film. Frankie Muniz is the best child actor around.

Pollock (2000)

Beautiful in it's brutality
13 November 2001
I saw Pollock at the London Film Festival on November 12th. What a harsh journey it was to watch the downfall of a talented human being. I can't believe how brilliant this film was. I was sure expecting the acting to be first rate, but I didn't actually expect the film to be as wonderful as it was, as an entire enity.

Ed Harris has been a favourite actor of mine since I was young, and I have never seen a film of his, where I didn't realise it was Ed. What I mean is, while watching Pollock, all I saw was Jackson Pollock. Ed wasn't 'playing' Pollock. He 'was' Pollock. He blew me away.

This film was emotionally and mentally draining. How Ed Harris managed to direct and star in it, is a miracle. When Russell Crowe won the Oscar, I thought 'yes, he's totally deserves it'. After seeing Pollock, that Golden baby should have been his!

A well acted drama
15 April 2001
I found this to be a sweet and emotional film. The direction by O'Connor was swift and engrossing and I liked the way he let you see each character differ when they were around another character. Like the way Joaquin Phoenix's character gets all lustful around Jennifer Connolly, but restrains himself around Liv Tyler.

Considering this is the film that brought them together in real life, I'm not surprised that Joaquin and Liv were so tender with one another. Both of them have the acting ability, where you only have to look into their eyes to know what they're feeling or trying to convey. For all the bitterness some characters offered, it was the relationship between Pamela and Doug that captured me.

Just a sweet love story, and that can be OK sometimes!

Labyrinth (1986)

Amazing!!
20 November 2000
Labyrinth was pretty much one of the films that made me a happy child. The most amazing things are created and brought to us through this film. It was savage, beautiful and it had great songs - What more do you need?!!

I never tire of this film. It partly shaped my childhood. I've been stuck in a fantasy world since I first saw it - And that's fine by me.
