Garner and Willis are excellent in this "buddy movie." Too bad this isn't based a true story, as we just don't seem to have heroes like this much anymore, let along quality actors like Garner. If Garner's portrayal is reminiscent of Maverick, The Rockford Files and others, it's because he's best in this genre. If you want to see him step out of the Western role, there are many opportunities including Frankenheimer's Grand Prix, probably the definitive motorsports movie ever made along with Le Mans, featuring another tough guy sometimes anti-hero, Steve McQueen. Nonetheless, Garner is a true cinema treasure and this is fun murder mystery is too good to pass up. Two thumbs up, way up.

Excellent

Not to be missed. Awesome graphics, humor and plot line. Bravo. The voice talent does an excellent job, and the insider touches such as the exact paint scheme for Mario Andretti's car, Richard and Lynda Petty as the King and Ms. King with the right shade of blue for his SuperBird and, of course, the ending credits are simply not to be missed.

This, undoubtedly, will be the blockbuster hit of the summer and it deserves to be so. Yes, Virginia, Hollywood can turn out a multi-gazillion dollar hit and not have it be R rated. Gee, no sex or profanity but entertainment value instead? Maybe all Hollywood executives should be required to see Cars but, you wanna know something? I think they already have.

One of Redford's Best

This ranks right up there with Field of Dreams for a mystical, sports being more than sports, and learning life's lessons type of movie. The scripting, characterizations, and photography are nearly flawless. Very even handed, low key and well played. Brilliant casting, right down to the narrator (or Chorus) in Jack Lemmon. Not to be missed.

Surprisingly Good for the Budget

Hard to believe this movie was made for only $500,000. Very professional, beautifully photographed, and it held my interest. Most, if not all, the acting was quite good. Good depiction of how high school wrestling used to be. However, with the pot, alcohol and references to sex, I would say it is inappropriate for my high school wrestler to see.
