I Am Belmaya (2021)
10/10
A lovely film. Highly recommended.
23 May 2022
A really well made, delightful, eye-opening and touching film. I loved the journey that Belmaya went on and the soundtrack is also a belter. I'll be keeping my Brady eyes open for the filmmakers next project. A must watch.

Stuck on You (2003)
No Dumb & Dumber!
9 December 2003
How could it go wrong I thought to myself? It was made by the same men who created such masterpieces of the comedy world as Dumb & Dumber(The Godfather of the comedy world), Kingpin and also There's Something About Mary, the cast is good and there seemed to be no end to the potential comedy moments once I had heard about the plot. Unfortunately it compares more favourably with the hit and miss Me, Myself and Irene than the previously mentioned stella threesome. The Farrelly Brothers seem to be on a steady decline at present, which is a shame as they have a rare and undoubted talent for comedy. Although this film has a few laugh out loud moments, they are unfortunately too few and not nearly loud enough and ultimately it is a disappointing entry to the Farrelly Brothers collection. Snap out of it Farrelly's!

Society (1989)
Bizarre, yet curiously good.
4 February 2002
I know what your thinking! Your thinking, "I've seen quite alot of good films in my time, but something's missing. I've seen great gangster movies in the Godfather and Goodfellas, fantastical fantasy films in Lord of the Rings and Jurassic Park, and Scintillating Sci-Fi movies with Aliens and The Terminator, but where are all the movies where the bad guys get turned inside out via the anus goddamnit!?" Well look no further, because Society fills the gapping void in the movie market that you were all seeking. A very strange movie, but even though its star is Billy Warlock of Baywatch fame, its actually pretty good. Not everybody's cup of tea, I'm sure, but for those who occasionally enjoy something a little different and thought provoking, it will linger in the mind, long after the credits have rolled.

The Gift (2000)
A Spine-tingling, goosepimple-fest of a movie!
20 March 2001
By the time I left the cinema after watching The Gift I felt emotionally and physically drained. From the beginning of the film to the end, my hairs were constantly standing to attention and my goose pimples hyperactive.

This is an entirely different type of film to possible Raimi's most famous films, The Evil Dead trilogy. Whereas the Evil Dead film's hurtle along at an electrifying pace, The Gift drifts along in almost an eerie manner, not dis-similar to that of The Sixth Sense. Even though the film has a fairly slow pace, it is done with such style and suspense, that you find yourself lost in the movie, and if you are anything like me, not once will your mind feel like wandering.

The film's casual pace is occasionally broken up with moments that are guaranteed to make even the calmest of individuals heart beat speed up to an almighty crescendo, and maybe even, cause them jump out of their seat!

Also, the film produces many good performances from its all star cast. Kate Blanchett in particular is at times mesmerising, Keanu Reeves is frighteningly convincing as a wife beating Red-Neck, Katie Holmes proves that she can play the man-eating vixen as well as her sappy Dawson's Creek character, and Giovanni Ribisi is also thoroughly convincing as the towns gibbering, unstable yockel.

All in all, I think that Raimi has created an thoroughly entertaining, suspenseful movie, that will leave the audience on the edge of there seat, and send the pulse racing! Spooky!

A hilarious, ingenious comedy, with many laugh out loud moments!
11 January 2001
I went to see Meet the Parents a few days ago, with high hopes for the film. I had heard only good reviews from friends, and I am a big fan of both De Niro and Stiller. I was not disappointed. The film is about Greg Focker(Stiller) and his planned marriage proposal to Pam(Polo). But before he can propose to Pam , he first needs to meet her father Jack(De Niro), and gain his approval, and his permission to propose. Things, however, do not go quite as Greg would have planned. De Niro is superb as the over protective, suspicious father. He showed in "Analyse This" that he has a talent for comedy, and there is further evidence of this in "Meet the Parents". His comic timing is spot on, and there are very few actors around, who I believe could have played this character with more style. How was Ben Stiller as Greg Focker(this name was the catalyst of many an amusing scene)? I have been a fan of Stiller since "There's Something About Mary", and his performance in this film has only enhanced my opinion of him.

My only criticism of this film, is that I feel they could have given Owen Wilson a slightly bigger role. He showed how funny he can be in "Shanghi Noon", but was not really given the opportunity to shine in this film. On the whole, this is an immensely enjoyable movie, that will leave everybody with a sense of humour, thoroughly entertained!

Surely, the worst ever Scorsese film
10 January 2001
I rented this film out the other day. How could it be bad? Martin Scorsese, Nick Cage, good supporting cast. The film was so bad, I turned it off about 20 minutes before the end! It was the first time that I had ever rented a video and failed to watch it all the way through! Scorsese seems to have tried to create a stylish, trippy, visually stunning movie, but, alas, all he has created is a shambolic mess! I'm sorry, but it just doesn't work. The film has no real plot, and is just plain confusing and uninteresting. I've got nothing against films that are fairly hard to follow, but quite frankly, this film does not have enough going for it to make you want to keep track of what's going on. Very disappointing. Can it really be true that this film was made by the same talented director that gave us such classics as "Goodfellas" and "Casino"? You wouldn't have guessed it to watch it!

Absolutely, mind numbingly boring!
10 January 2001
I was home ill, from work the other day, and I noticed that my house mate had bought a film that I had never seen. I decided to put it on, as I had nothing else to do. Wish I hadn't! I've had more fun plucking my nose hair! The plot is pathetic! The film just meanders along at such a slow pace that it could be travelling backwards! There's absolutely no on screen chemistry, and no charisma shown by any of the actors! As you may have gathered, not my favourite film.

Evil Dead II (1987)
10/10
An electrifying roller coaster ride of a movie!
9 January 2001
This film, is without a shadow of a doubt, one of finest, most imaginative comedy horror films ever made. Raimi, has put all the aspects of the film together in masterful fashion. The camera work and sound effects are pulsating, and the timing is perfection. And in Bruce Campbell, the film as a lead actor who gives an exceptional performance. Campbell plays "Ash", an everyday, supermarket attendant who suddenly finds himself thrown into the unusual situation of having to defend himself against, zombies, evil spirits and even his own possessed hand, just in order to survive the night. I laughed, I gasped, and I gripped the arm of my chair throughout! If you like your comedies, black and hilarious, and your horror, gory and sensational, then look no further. Raimi has created the definitive comedy horror! Fantastic!
