Boys In The Bland
5 October 2020
Shockingly bad. Like a first time table reading. Zero chemistry . Friedkin not at the helm directing , actors seem lost. Im still puzzled as to why it was even remade. I gave it 2 stars because they used Herb Alpert's "this Guy's in Love With You". This remake just lays there , all dressed up and no place to go. Oh Mary.. dont ask..

Starrbooty (2007)

I love this movie!! A new camp classic!
15 May 2008
Its funny to read these reviews of "StarrBooty" even though I happen to have voiceovers in this film , Id STILL love it anyways

I do the voice of Corneisha, which one reviewer had said they used "real womens voices " to overdub some of the drag queens and transsexuals. haa haa its a man too !!

RuPaul pays homage to John Waters, Tamara Dobson, Pam Grier, Mommie Dearest, The Naked Gun, Paris Is Burning & James Bond in one dynamite thriller!!

made with little to no budget but all great script and kick ass performances of the talent involved. Its important to remember that all of John Waters early films were critically reviled , and took years by word of mouth to make it into the mainstream fringe of cinema.

This project is a dream Ru has had for some time, for the original "Starrbooty" series he made in the 1980s in Atlanta were done with a cam corder and 2 vCr's so this new y2k version is much more stepped up & is shot so well by director Mike Ruiz. its a Great character to run wild and have fun with , RuPaul really delivers.

Candis Cayne from ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" plays the evil cosmetic magnate villain ness Annika Manners so wickedly and fun, absolutely brilliant !

its a bit of a departure for America's drag queen sweetheart , always playing comedy or bit parts on films , to have made such a sexually graphic film that shows the inside world of hooking in Meat market (albeit rather exxxagerated , but not too far off from how its really done..)

Pick up Starrbooty the next time friends are over, its a camp classic! You'll all be quoting lines in no time!

Calling All Conisseurs of Camp!
7 May 2007
OMG this Neutron Bomb of a MisFire is up there with "ShowGirls" in the "so bad its brilliant" category!

My friend got a copy of this trash thru the grapevine, if you are a "camp' addict then "Velvet" is your feel good hit!

It basically a grade "Z" Charlies Angels , Wonder Woman Rip Off , which , by comparison "Velvet" makes those shows seem Shakespearian.

My friends & I could not stop laughing @ its God Awful Wonderfulness.

Worth a look just for the 80's Ladies Aerobic outfits, ridiculous theme Song,

"Strong As A Magnet" She is Velvet", genius lyrics!

Shari Belafonte Harper, some ladies from "YOung & The Restless" Polly Bergen ( who must have wondered what the H*** she is doing there) all giving their best "deer caught in the Headlights" acting job .... uhhh Lordy...

Honestly , every woman really does in this day & age needs a lipstick tube that can set off explosions , HOT!

A must @ parties! Get Ready to Laff!

Wonder Woman (1974 TV Movie)

Wonder Campfest!
6 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
"Great Hera!" as Wonder Woman herself would exclaim, this 1974 TV movie is a camped up campy fest , I had to check to make sure John Waters himself didn't direct this version !

I remember this so well from my childhood , this incarnation of Wonder Woman was completely different from the '76 version with Lynda Carter, DC comics had not given the films producers full permission to use WW , so the producers of this film took lots of liberties with the character, her tools of the trade & storyline. Crosby's WW costume more closely resembles David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust Character than the Amazonian princess we know & love , very new wave glitter rock '74 style!

This bizarro camp fest is more in line with the WW of the late 60's when DC comics completely changed the storyline to make Diana Prince more of a female James Bond . the fun begins & things really get cooking when "The Price Is Right" uber model Anitra Ford co stars as Paradise Island Bad Girl "Ahn-jay-lah(think "Angela" with a snooty accent) who comes to this "man's world" to get her due. Fresh from her stint in "The Big Bird Cage" with Pam Grier ,Anitra Ford really lays on the bada** thick. Watch in amazement as her & Cathy Lee Crosby suddenly turn into male stunt doubles in drag during their fight scenes!! Anitras male stunt double is giving you major cottage cheese in his skin tight polyester pants & Woolworth's Brunette wig - a LAFF RIOT! Ricardo Montalban plays the villain "Abner" as his prototype for Mr. Roarke on "Fantasy Island" , the suave , debonair , ambivalent cucumber cool Casanova with a trick or 2 up his sleeve. Uh... my goodness, the acting, the script, the fight scenes , plus Artie Butler's wicked mini MOOG synthesizer keyboard soundtrack is the gold standard all 70's TV movie's must be measured against

A lot of people are disappointed with this version because it takes liberty with the storyline we all know & love & the fact its cheaply made, but if you are a fan of campy Queenius TV movies , this is right up your alley. Watch it tonite with a group of friends & get ready to pause during the "stuntmen in drag" fight scenes! Truly a Wonder, Woman!
