Laverne & Shirley: The Driving Test (1978)
Oh Squiggy!
Everyone was trying so hard to help Squiggy study for his test. Their heart was definitely in the right place. The dramatic exit of that particular scene is just so "Squiggy-like" I've noticed he tends to do that when he's upset and exits a room. He'd make a self-depreciating comment and slam out of the room. Hurts my heart when this happens. (does it similarly in "Squiggy in Love"
Laverne & Shirley: Helmut Weekend (1982)
Excellent Episode
This episode was very Squiggy Centric and revolved around the relationship between "Andy" and his father. After being absent in his son's life Helmut returns and tries to insert himself in his adult son's life. At first Squig is happy about his dad wanting to be in his life but alas it wasn't happening and 29 year old Andy finds out the hard way that dear ol' dad hadn't changed. We see our darling Squggy have a one on one convo with his father after realizing he had not changed. Luckily Lenny saw through everything and as usual things worked out in the end. This episode shows just how much both boys have grown up over the years. Once a con man always a con man.
Laverne & Shirley: Why Did the Fireman... (1980)
Very dramatic and anyone watching needs a tissue nearby.
The entire cast did an excellent job with this episode. The show started out the usual comical way. Typical Lenny & Squiggy entering at the most inopportune moment. But the scene that obviously broke my (and anyone who watches) heart is the scene in which the boys deliver the fateful message. Very solemn entrance and both boys seem on the verge of tears - I think even they are in shock. Lenny breaks down as he attempts to tell Laverne but Squiggy interrupts and breaks the bad news. They were there at the scene so they'd be in shock as and devastated as well - they liked Randy too. The only episode to my recollection in which Squig entered the girls' apartment in a very solomn way rather than his usual famous "HELLO"
Laverne & Shirley: The Slow Child (1978)
Lenny the sweetheart
Squiggy crosses the line in a major way in this episode and good on Lenny for telling him off. Lenny may have been a womanizer but I doubt he would have done anything to hurt Amy. There is something sweet about him. Squiggy is the one who is more of the womanizer and put the two boys together they can be trouble but Lenny alone - he's a sweetie. Squig should have apologized to Amy at that party. All in all an excellent episode.
Laverne & Shirley: New Year's Eve 1959 (1977)
Hilarious episode
During one of the ever-so-charming entrances... Shirley delivers her line and the boys enter - they enter with Squiggy sitting on Lenny's shoulders and then Squig delivering his charming "HELLO" line. The fact that Michael McKean can actually carry David Lander like that is amazing. Then there's Squg's outfit he has on later in the episode..... tsk Squiggy wearing that outfit on NYE in Milwaulkee? You're gonna freeze your sweet tush off!
Laverne & Shirley: Hi, Neighbor (1976)
Another one of my faves
The physical comedy for this cracks me up. First of all - The girls carrying Squiggy / David with him not even cracking a smile in this scene. Carrying him to the door of their apartment then back to the sofa. I'm sure they had to do this in a few takes because c'mon. Two girls carrying you like that - I'm sure he would have had a hard time not cracking a smile. (he and Michael McKean wrote it sooo most likely it was all planned that way. - either way that whole episode is hilarious)
Laverne & Shirley: Two of Our Weirdos Are Missing (1976)
Another top fave episode.
The boys get themselves into situations with Frank, Edna and Carmine at at work and they try to tell the girls but can't seem to spit it out. After failing to get the girls to listen to them, they resolve to run away from their problems. Later the girls track them down and encourage the boys to come back. They brush it off saying their problems are just to embarrassing to talk about. The girls and they have a heart to heart talk. That is what true friendship is all about - regardless if they drive you crazy.
Laverne & Shirley: Squiggy in Love (1979)
My top fave episode
I absolutely LOVE Squiggy. There is something adorably sweet about him despite his weirdness. The talk he and Shirley had was just so sweet. She tells him how it is and he responds that he knows (seriously almost on the verge of tears)
All ya want to do is give that boy a hug! Vivian ain't good enough for him he needs a girl who loves him for him - quirkiness and all. :)
