Iwájú (2024)
Legit
This was unexpectedly really good! It had really clean animation and the story line was great. I love how they merged present and future realities both the hardships and opportunities. I also really enjoyed seeing the culture (at least I imagine it's actually the culture) of Lagos, Nigeria. From the language to the food it felt authentic while also giving us that futuristic vibe! My favorite part was the tech and imaging things like that actually happening in the very near future. Additionally, while it's unfortunate, they touched on a huge issue that is seemingly ignored by the masses and that is human trafficking/abduction of children. I am glad I watch and that the creators brought it about and Disney put it on the platform...fingers crossed for a season 2!!
Suzume no Tojimari (2022)
Really Solid Movie
I can't lie this movie almost made me cry twice particularly at the end. I totally wasn't expecting the ending that came about I was pleasantly surprised! I definitely thought the cat was her mom's spirit but that was neither proven or disproven. Ultimately, I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes anime (even those that don't) it has elements of adventure, love, and struggle that many people face in life (me included). I don't really have anything negative to say about it; it had a really clean art style and I loved that, the English voice acting was solid and the plot was different but I enjoyed it. The only thing that was a little off was that there were no reports on the news about the self moving chair but the cat was EVERYWHERE lol.
Gran Turismo (2023)
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Quite possibly the best movie of the year!! I am a huge anime fan and while this movie wasn't about anime at all it left me with the same inspired, ready to run through a wall feels that anime so often leaves me with! It is well worth your time if you are looking for something that isn't full of petty drama and goes straight to the point. No antics, gimmicks, etc. It was just real (at least it felt real). I will say this though, I never looked into how much of the movie was real vs. Hollywood production but again the feel I was left with was real. I think that's what makes it so great it has so many characteristics of a quality anime but it is based on a true story! Idk just check it out and see for yourself.
Pressure Cooker (2023)
Not a fan of the judging/elimination process
I was excited to watch this show because I love competition and I love food but the way they make it more about relationships than the actual food being cooked ribs me the wrong way. It's not the kind of competition I'm interested in seeing. This show had a lot of potential but unless they change the format and have an unbiased judging and elimination process I will not continue watching. I don't know maybe I was wrong in my expectation of what the show is/was supposed to be and maybe it gets better after episode one but it's so annoying that I don't want to continue to find out. If they make a season 2 I'll watch the first episode to see if anything has changed and if not I'm gone.
Chris Rock: Selective Outrage (2023)
Not his best work
I'm not sure why this has such high ratings? It was meh at best. He has done much better in the past (and even that wasn't great) it just seemed lame and forced. Many of the jokes didn't land and I felt bad for him (and who want to feel that way when you are watching something that is supposed to be funny). Maybe I had too much anticipation/expectation going into it but I had to force my way through...the only reason I wanted to watch was because of the Will Smith stuff and I thought maybe Chris would bring some other funny things to the table but I was wrong, sooo yeah not great, not even average. I think it has the potential to be better but Chris Rock doesn't have it in him anymore to be really funny. For his sake though, I'm glad he was able to get a good showing, maybe he made a good chunk of change off of this one; being b**** slapped on national television isn't easy I'm sure. I know this much, he better be sending a thank you card to the Smith household because that's likely the only reason the majority of people watched the special and it is rated as highly as it is right now (March 2023).
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
I really enjoyed this!
I was so very excited for the release of this series and I am pleased to say I'm not disappointed with the end product! I can't wait for the next installment of this series and to see how they plan to tie everything together. I imagine there will be at least three more seasons. There was enough mystery left unfinished at the end of the finale that there should be no problem creating more content. I'm the type that hates when someone spoils a show so I don't want to give anything away but I will say this (only because it's not technically a spoiler if you watched the original movies), I'm really excited for the dwarf season(s)! Thank you to the creators and I hope you guys don't quit on us.
Shokugeki no Soma (2015)
Thank you, I absolutely love this show!
This show is so freaking good! I practice medicine and it has been pushing me to be the best I can be. It is 100% a top tier show. Between the challenges and the triumphs with the comedy sprinkled in throughout I can say without a doubt that I love this show!! Thank you to the team that created it and the platforms that make it available for me to watch.
Yuukoku no Moriarty (2020)
I want more!
This show was really good I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch I just wish there was more to watch! Thank you to the creators for making this!! I think it would be cool to dive into each characters life before and after the start and after the close. The way they closed it out was fine but I just feel like they left a lot of people wanting more but I doubt more content will be produced. Nevertheless, it was great and I'll keep recommending it to others!
Bel-Air (2022)
Pleasantly Surprised!
Originally, I thought this was going to be an attempt at a scene for scene/episode for episode remake of the original and I am so glad I was wrong. The thought that it was a remake is what kept me away for so long but then I thought I'd give it a try anyway and I was pleasantly surprised. They decided to go an alternate route and created something almost entirely different. I love how they sprinkled in some of the things I enjoyed about the original while still creating their own unique show. My biggest criticism is that the acting can sometimes be awkward and the language can be offensive to my ears but still, I have to say, I am a fan of this one and I hope they keep it going!
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso (2014)
Amazing!!
This show was absolutely amazing; I held myself back from crying multiple times! I can't explain why, but this one touched me very deeply and I am so glad I decided to watch. I love content that evokes emotion and this one did it for me so I want to send a huge thank you to the team that created it, you guys rock!!
Yakusoku no Neverland (2019)
Really good but so much more potential
I really enjoyed this show and the whole idea of it! My only issue is that they ended it way too quickly. They could've easily extended this another season probably even two. Nevertheless, I am glad to have watched it and appreciate the work they did!
Dokutâ Sutôn (2019)
Really cool show!
**Potential spoiler but not really**
This was a really cool show! RDCWorld put me on and I'm glad I looked into it. I love how they broke the science behind so many things down and showed how to actually create some of the things we love and enjoy! Hopefully, they will add more episodes because the show could definitely continue.
Jujutsu Kaisen (2020)
LEGIT!!
I'm only on episode 8 but I had to come in and show love...this show is legit!! The intro gets me live every time I watch and listen to the song, it makes me love the show more and more each time I hear it. Shout out to Funimation for bringing it to the platform; I've been hoping and waiting for a while and it's finally here and best of all it's English dubbed!!! If the show falls off I'll be sure to come in and update this review but as it stands I love it.
You (2018)
This one is a winner!
I love this series and season 3 was the best yet; keep it up guys!! The first season grabbed me but this last season landed the catch. I was not expecting to see what you guys cooked up!
Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019)
Legit!
This show is so legit I was finally able to watch the dubbed version on Funimation and I absolutely love it! I can't wait for season 2!!
