Outer Range (2022)
I never wanted to write just 'wow' in a review
I know it's lazy and not good writing to sum up a story with the exclamation, "wow!", but that's all I can say about Outer Range and do it justice, without watering it down.
Outer Ranger is a science fiction show, sure. That's one side of it, certainly not its primary side.
Outer Range is a show about the darkness that lurks inside all of us. That darkness shapes our lives despite our best efforts to tamp it down and not let it influence our actions and motivations. But it does, even if oh so gently. And to me, that's what this show was mainly about. The influence of this darkness in our actions and desires. How it can lead to outcomes previously considered unthinkable or plain 'wrong'.
It's a show about time, family, conflict, and the transcendental object at the end of time that's approaching our unsuspecting and unprepared little planet at light speed. This show is about that too. About an enigma. A phenomenon that is completely beyond our petty human comprehension. We need to get ready to face it, and I hope we do it better than the characters in this show did, but I fear we're all too human to be much better than a small combined, concerted effort by a collective of humans, instead of individuals.
The Pentaverate (2022)
Mike Myers hits it out of the park with this lampooning of conspiracy tropes
I started giggling in the first episode, and kept giggling all the way through to the last episodes ending. I enjoy conspiracy theories and I've glamorized about secret societies my fair share, but this irreverent send up of that idea is quite simply, really really hilarious and awesome. Groovy baby!
Midnight Mass (2021)
A well deserved 9 out of 10
I don't know what to say about this 7 episode marvel of storytelling. Trying to define it and put it into boxes like 'religous allegory', that's really short sighted.
It is a new kind of story, it gave me feelings I didn't know I still had.
Settle in for a treat and binge this show in one sitting. It's worth ut.
