Chances Are (1989)
Of all the silly crap...
I would like to say skip this one because it's silly, trite and predictable, but I like everyone in it so much that I can't. Sure you'll kick yourself over wasting 90 minutes that you'll never get back when it's all said and done, but it's like bowling-alley jello shot; you only have to try it once to know it's terrible. All the actors involved do the very best they can with an awful script and are charming enough to keep you from actually pouring salt in your eyes. And given the right combination of sedatives, one can slow down the mind enough not to be bothered by the fact that each situation is visible several miles down the road. If you run across this on cable on a Tuesday night go for it, but don't pay to rent it.
Supernova (2000)
heh
May I just say to people who thought this movie was awful and trashy, you'll appreciate it 100% if you watch Circuit Breaker with Richard Grieco first. Talk about trashy and lame. Supernova was not the worst movie I've ever seen, but I would recommend waiting for "Two-for-one-day" at the video store to try it out.
At Sachem Farm (1998)
I loved Nigel Hawthorne in the movie!
First of all I must admit that I am a great admirer of Rufus Sewell. That was the main reason I couldn't hardly contain myself when this was finally released in the U.S. as Uncorked. I would not however, be so biased as not to include Nigel Hawthorne in this comment.
The story was cute, I must say a little girlie, but definitely not like every other movie. Nigel Hawthorne as Uncle Cullen was probably my favorite part of the movie. His ability to be completely impossible to all the other characters, with out making him any less likable was amazing. Of course all the performances were great, his just really stood out.
My favorite part of the entire movie though, was within the first five minutes. It was an exchange between the characters Mr. Tan and Ross regarding a straw. It sounds a little strange, but that just cracked me the heck up.
Overall I would just like to say that the wait for it to come to the U.S. was totally worth it, and I would recommend it to anyone.
A Knight's Tale (2001)
Thoroughly enjoyable
As any one will tell you, if you're a medieval purist, A Knight's Tale is not the film for you. I thought of how my mother would pick apart every detail of their costumes the entire time I sat watching. Once the action and music of the movie caught my attention and kept it I enjoyed myself much more. I must say I've always been a fan of Rufus Sewell, and I wasn't too surprised when I heard he would be in this ( he seems to have a knack for period films), and he did not disappoint me as the villain in this one. Of course Heath Ledger was cute, he was the reason my friend pulled me to the theater, and over all gave a good performance as the main character, and hero of the story, although I found his side-kicks much more amusing. I don't think I can wrap this up with out adding that I was incredibly pleased to hear David Bowie on the sound track, because from the commercials you would think that "We Will Rock You" is the only song in the whole freaking movie. The blatant cheesiness (and everyone who had a part in this movie had to know it would be) mixed with action and a great sound track made this thoroughly enjoyable. Just don't go if you don't enjoy a movie that is just a light hearted "Movie". This isn't exactly a profound, thought provoking, film masterpiece.
