Tom Cruise is such a good actor
14 July 2020
I mean, the guy is just captivating. Great script, very indicative of the corporate excess and greed we saw in the 90s and still see today, and reminds me of a time when actors were good and not just "representing" some garbage.

It's a rush and worth the time
1 July 2020
Gritty and realistic, authentic and encapsulating. Makes all the minor issues go out the window. I am biased though as I like most all WW1 movies, but happy that somewhere, somehow, people are actually trying to make movies instead of letting a test audience dictate how every scene should go.

This was so, so poorly cast
1 July 2020
I love the premise , I love Eurovision, and Will Ferrel's earlier comedies were some of my favorites. But outside of the cinematography and costumes, this was such a huge miss and disappointment on every level. It wasn't funny, or cute, or quirky, it was just a couple of has been actors mailing it in. Rachel McAdams delivered possibly the least convicing performance of a "lead" actress in a film, ever. I can think of 100 actresses who would have been better suited for the role, more believable... so what's going on behind closed doors? Will Ferrel is trying to be himself, and he's bored, not a character. The story of course isn't well executed, but I never expect much from a story in this satire/feel good/comedy movies - so don't take off points for it. Netflix continues to churn out absolute formulated garbage that has those with a semblance of an IQ wondering........ when will the movies be worth our time again?

Light hearted, doesnt take itself seriously, entertaining

Depp makes this film with his quips around the arrogant aristocratic sensibilities of the writers who knowingly poke fun at themselves. Jolie is just a pretty face but does her job well. Wish more films were like this instead of an absolute obliteration of the senses like the superhero garbage.

Really wanted to like this, but poorly executed on all counts
6 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the Safdies first movie (GOod Times) and the use of music , pacing and relatively simple plot all came together nicely in it. This however, was a bumbling wreck on all counts that had so much potential , but poor execution, misuse of musical cues, and a downright annoying Adam Sandler had me checking my phone constantly as it clumsily trudged along. Editing, music and a better lead over Sandler would have made a world of difference. Only redeeming factor was drawing out the final scene which we saw coming for a while. For those of us who aren't absolute degenerates, this doesn't convey anxiety, but rather the need for an advil after how hard it tries to annoy you.

It just isn't good - even at what it tries to be good at
2 January 2020
I like heavyset women in comedy, don't make this about that. Rebel .Wilson and Melissa McCarthy are hilarious. This , however, was just another insecure millenial cliche that doesn't bring anything new to the table, isn't charming, is good at being cringe, and has a terribly dull, lethargic performance from it's actors. How many times can streaming services do the same thing over and over again with a new face. Just say no and go for a run yourself.

Tries too hard, just isn't as elegant as it wants to be
1 January 2020
And ends up being a drag. Fassbender does well enough with the material given to him, so does Weisz, but the casting of Vikander is a big let down. Most critics have a lolita complex-a fetish for 14 year old girls, and that is why she is a favorite of theirs. It always comes off as a kid out of her depth , taking herself too seriously pretending to "act". Perhaps many women relate to that as not everyone can be a Rachel Weisz. The story could have really powered through all of that, but instead it's too hung up on itself, a bore, a caricature of what it wants to be, and ultimately a waste of time.

A good, but not great look at the horrors of colonialism
31 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While the acting was excellent , and the on scene cinematography was epic, I knew as I made it through the film this was clearly made and directed by a woman making the most of the feminist movement that would use and overdo the usual themes of "rape", a dry, emotionless white male craving power and the poor oppressed women and black folk. While this was certainly true of 18th century Tasmania and the British penal set up, the film could have done a lot more with the subject matter and dare I say seen things from a higher vantage point. Another issue was the casting of Sam Claflin - a very limited, monotonous actor who really can't do much more than act like a "good ol boy" at a private boarding school. A stronger lead would have done wonders and given a better dynamic to the cruelty of a "lost man". A perfect recipe for the feminist manifesto that wants to be seen as courageous, yet lack the courage to look at the nuances of depravity. I still rate it a 7 for pandering to it's very specific audience, but it still comes off as a B grade movie due to the laziness of the female director in exploring colonial rule.

Moving around in prison is sooooo easy - a lifetime movie for criminals
29 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This was supposed to be more suspense action than an ironclad plot film, a b grade underdog film. But moving around in prison is too easy, as is the escape and all the subsequent events. You can't fault the actors for working with what they are given, but it falls flat as a movie because of the lack of realism. Plus marks for not relying on fancy effects or gruesome violence, but really can't give it more than a 5 for where it goes after a strong beginning and all the elements for a really good thriller. Either commit to strong script or B grade John Wick style, don't turn this into lifetime for criminals.

It's a well made small budget
29 December 2019
People give it low ratings , mostly women, because it makes them uncomfortable about their experiences as an aspiring whatever but I like the honesty and also the kind of admission that her issues are because of her lofty expectations, not someone who stays in reality or is built for the long haul like the chubby friend who smokes weed in this instance. Happiness and finding yourself isn't about a career or money or car as all these "aspiring" women eventually find out, sooner or later. Stay grounded and work slowly towards your goals and make the best of the journey. Life really isnt harder than that

I wish someone would tell these people
28 December 2019
That the answer is never going to be "out there", but within themselves. They have certain obstacles to overcome from the religious brainwashing, but it will only be harder if they keep looking to the outside world or other people for happiness. That is the key to integration into modern society and just being plain old happy, realizing it's within you and not some random community you were assigned to at birth. Kind of a downer that no one in the documentary told them this and they would go on going in wrong directions.

A very, very good movie
28 December 2019
Yes, it's called satire, not historical drama. If you understand it, have a fulfilling life or don't take yourself seriously, there's no way you can't enjoy this film and what it is trying to achieve. It is sad that superhero movies will have a million 9 star ratings for the same tired old cliche, whereas an original, well executed film with actors who can actually act (even the kids, especially the kids in fact) can barely garner any press. This is an event that really happened, these are thoughts that really occurred, and it's only through honestly looking at situations like this can we improve humanity going forward.

A truly terrible, boring movie
28 December 2019
I am a fan of whoddunit's, detective movie's and in general do not have a high criteria for enjoyability. But I found myself waiting to turn this off while I trudged through it. Terrible dialogue, faux suspense, actors who were either dialing it in or terrible to begin with (how does d ridley keep getting cast as someone who is neither attractive nor talented?) and the most cringeworthy lead performance. Johnny Depp was pretty good in his limited time on the screen. I have no issues with the writers modernizing the movie for the PC era but I do have issues with terrible movies being made. Clearly another movie made based on audience cards , get ready for more mediocrity.

What original movies should be about
23 December 2019
People rating this low are angry that they had to watch a movie that was original and wasn't MADE FOR THEM VIA TEST AUDIENCES. Give us your money and leave for being lame. I'm hoping for more from the director, this didn't have a perfect plot, a perfect conclusion, a perfect meaning, it was just a really well made film with a strong script.

Same old, same old, same old. But still enjoyable.
23 December 2019
The review title says it all, really. Grow an attention span, watch it all at once because it moves at a good pace and like all scorcese movies, draws you in and gets you hooked. I;d love to see Martin or a protege of his apply that formula to a different story then the old mid 20th century new america gangster.

Enjoyed it
23 December 2019
Not a huge fan of vikings, which I find repetitive and shallow, but this one definitely has potential if it gets rid of the deadwood it's picked up in the last couple seasons. Great lines from Uthred and co make it quotable and the action is not overdone. Let's hope it stays at a high level.

Now this is what I call a show you'd expect on HBO! Yes, it has it's flaws and pointless storylines, but there's enough above average elements and shockers to make it one of the few shows worth the watch.

It's a disappointment from every possible facet
23 December 2019
I'm not here to compare it to GOT or any other show, why would I? I take everything at face value and see it for what it is. This had such a wonderful novel, backstory and enticing characters, but everything from the casting, acting, pacing of the story, dialogue , cinematography etc. is all wrong. Good actors could have saved it in some areas, but they never showed up. The poor storyline and uneven pacing has it doomed to be another netflix crappy original. It's even worse when you consider the high budget. I root for anything that isn't a 50th marvel remake to make noise, but this won't be it and I hope they put money for future seasons into something meatier with actual actors, not fringe british drama school thespians. The worst part is to come here and see it has a 9 rating... shows you nerds and fanboys will vote something a 10 no matter how bad it is, and why we have 25 superhero movies that make billions of dollars while original ideas never come to the surface.

we have to collectively stop
22 December 2019
Watching movies where the casting is solely based on race quotas. yes, the script was very poor, but bad acting makes it impossible to get through and anger that this is getting financed when there are original ideas being looked over.

just make original, slightly average movies with good actors. I do not want more than that, leave the PC stuff for the disney marvel superhero stuff that will have millions watch it regardless of who you put in.

This is so, so bad
22 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I like indie films, I like difficult subject matters, and heck, I even like boring films.

But this was BAAADDD. It was painful dialogue , painful in execution and just a prototypical bad relationship from middle school... being played out with adults. Toxic from all angles with a very distorted flow, it DOESN'T have to be like this. This isn't what reality HAS to be like. Every character was just ready to hop on to the first sign of attention from any source.

Formulaic middle aged cliche on repeat
15 May 2019
Nothing that hasn't been shown 1... or 2 million times before. The exact same metaphors for the jaded suburbanite with no real hope or optimism, just painting everyone as a horribly hypocritical human being. I guess mentally healthy people have too much going for them to waste time on movies.

New leads, changing storylines, it doesn't matter. The Greg Davies family man is still always hilarious to me. Would like to see them focus more on that and just forget about all the eccentric American outsiders who take away from their shine!

Not funny, charming or clever, just copied and neurotic
14 May 2019
As a huge fan of British comedies from Peep Show, Plebs, Inbetweeners, The Office, IT Crowd, Derry Girls. .. I thought this would be an easy watch for me but it's cringe all around. The same played out scenario's we've seen thousands of times from a neurotic female perspective just weren't funny.

By the end of it I was angry I had spent so much time waiting for it to change but it is what it is, terribly overhyped. Waller Bridge appeals to a certain crowd with her Killing Eve feminist overtones, but even that crowd has to admit this is more about them "wanting" this to be good than it actually being good.

Everything set in Chicago is so, so bad
14 May 2019
It's like there's a Chicago formula going around, whether it's Easy or this one, and we aren't progressing as a species. Lead actors are really bad , don't teens want something slightly creative, original, interesting or funny? Take a nap instead, walk in nature, don't watch bad tv.

Can't ask for anything more, good actresses, great dialogue, nostalgic and VERY real settings, Frankie's song was the icing on the cake. Would like to see more of these with perhaps a modern context? Hope and positivity doesn't always come from having 5 mansions and supercars.
