What a let down!
16 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was looking forward to this movie, with all the hype and wonderful reviews... Safe to say I was disappointed to no end.

Positive: BEAUTIFUL CINEMATOGRAPHY! This was the film's main saving grace, I absolutely loved everything about the colours and angles, some STUNNING shots and brilliant use of colours. I truly felt transformed to the 1970s.

Negative: The film is a collection of unlinked events in the life of 15 year old Gary starting businesses and chasing after 25 year old Alana. From one scene where they sell water beds to the next where she works for a politician all while 'chasing love' when I could not see past the haze of friendship.

I felt like the film was trying so hard to push its notion of 'romance', it almost felt like being in the mind of a teenage boy daydreaming about what it would be like for an older woman to fall head over heels in love with him and on his terms.

Had it not been for the statement at the start highlighting that Alana is 25, you would not guess, in a million year that she is a full grown adult, for she is even more childish than half the kids in the cast.
