Yön saalistajat (1984)
Best (and only) Finnish made grind house crime movie to date.
Firstly to be said this not nearly as poor movie that some here are saying. It is not bad-bad movie it is good-bad movie... no it is excellent-bad movie. It got all the right (and wrong ingredients). There is real acting, hammy acting and no acting. Car chases, nude scenes, violence. There are multiple reasons to watch this film. Firstly it is unique piece of Finnish cinematography. Secondly this is quite entertaining movie. BTW actor playing character Reuna has also played former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari... My hat is off for director Visa Mäkinen. I strongly recommend to watch this movie and other movies by Visa Mäkinen.
Halloween (2007)
Good, Bad and Worse
Whitout doubt very professionally made movie that has merits and flaws in it. It quite well updates story visually and otherwise to nowadays and answered some of the questions left unanswered in original. As regarding this re-make I believe it would have worked better if the childhood bits of Michael were not shared with such grand portions ie Michael is bogeyman - lurking and stalking slasher killing machine in fictional horror story and it is no point to try raise sympathy for him or try to humanize him it only work against the whole character. Later parts of movie (from the truck stop and there on) got some quite impressive stuff in it and Malcolm McDowell were worthy heir to Donald Pleasance former part and Danielle Harris was added bonus. I think that this movie probably has most professi0nal cast of actors ever presented in Halloween line of movies.
Maa on syntinen laulu (1973)
Unpolished masterpieces
Simply superb movie by late Rauni Molberg based on book of same name by Timo K. Mukka. Story set on poor rural region in western Lapland some years after Continuation War. Especially dialog is on level of its own and this film uses not so well know local dialect of border region between Finland and Sweden in Lapland. This movie has caused fair share of controversies be chose it show how the things really were during time (and quite some time after that) and place it depicts. Upon its 1974 release, it was the most widely attended film in Finnish film history. I can not comprehend why master piece like this is on limited distribution by Finnish National film Board. One can only hope that now when esteemed Mr Molberg has passed on his master piece can finally receive wider distribution
Aika tappaa (2005)
Execellent movie... If you are high on crack
So many things in this movie were just so wrong. Acting were either lame or hammy and Tapio Liinoja were involved only due involvement of his daughter on this project. Scenes at police department were clearly shot in some school facilities. Scene where twitching dead girl appearing is so absurd and is done on so many direct to DVD/video horror movies before that made me laugh. Scene happening at 1935 were just so wrong: suits with modern cuts and shoulder toppings wrong hairstyles and I do not believe that Jussi-sweaters even existed in 1935. Audio track were partly non-audible and musics were too loud in comparison. Watching this is waste of time and sanity.
