Smile (2005)
Skip this one!
This movie is terrible, it was so difficult to believe that Katie became a heartfelt teenager with the power to save the pity Chinese people, the movie didn't show any convincing argument to prove that. And the rest of the plot didn't make any effort to show us more than a cheap common sense...
The plot is ridiculous and the only thing we can extract from it is that it demonstrate how arrogant a human can be. Katie must have inherited her arrogance from her mother, the most annoying character I have seen for a long time.
The acting and scenery were OK, but the plot ruins everything, full of cheap clichés and hypocritical scenes, I expect not to see this movie again in my life. Skip this one!
Sin City (2005)
A fun noir-film with ultraviolence.
Many friends of mine just thought that they were watching some meaningless movie with some psychotic characters so they stopped watching it in the first (and gorier) story. But this movie isn't just about ultraviolence, thugs and whores with submachine guns (what could attract many guys to watch Sin City), it's about principles and three very well written stories, every protagonist have an ideal and try to achieve it, even if achieving it may cost their lives; It's not difficult to find out because with the noir traces (narrative for example) you can easily understand what's on their minds and how they feel.
The acting is above average as a result of a terrific cast for the roles, Mickey Rourke (as Marv) has a wonderful acting here, he fitted perfectly the character and made Marv the most empathetic and original character from Sin City. I had the opportunity to read the comics and it's clearly that this is the most authentic comic adaptation ever. This genuine mark is due Frank Miller's wish.
Sin City is for people that support (or even enjoy) some violence and gore but does not interfere in the overall sense, a very well done and entertaining movie!
