Luther (2010–2019)
4/10
I hate rating it so low.
20 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I did enjoy watching it. Unfortunately, the character is wildly more intriguing than the situations the writers keep putting him in.

I did like the pairing with Alice in series 1. Wish that would have carried on into later series more.

Also didn't understand the passion to stop the vigilante in series 3. I understand it's his job, but why so serious? Dude was just taking out the trash. Once again, I get that it's against the law, and he's a criminal; just criticizing the hatred Luther had for him.

That's already more than I wanted to say, so I should be good by the end of this sentence. Almost.

Only seen the 4 released episodes
5 February 2024
I absolutely love the concept. Yes, Rob Lowe may be phoning it in, but he's still better than most modern hosts (except Higgins). People complain about the pace, but I think it's perfect. Great balance of down time to game time. I hate too much interview time for contestants, but this show doesn't do that.

I agree about the "Randomizer" not being as random as they try to portray, but that's what you should expect. All entertainment has a goal to entertain. Not mad about that.

When it comes to game shows, I care about a fun watch that I can engage in. That's this show. Can't wait for the next episode.

Season 2 isn't real
8 July 2023
This show was such an interesting idea to start off, but seriously the most poorly executed. Every single episode of season 1 could have been its own season if it had been written well. What a great Lost-style show that would have been.

Unfortunately this is what we got. A very deep, intricate, and layered story dished out as quickly as possible with barely any tension.

Can you imagine how hard the ultimate twist would have hit if we were on season 6 of the season 1 story? What a waste.

Appreciated Matt Dillon's acting, of course. Appreciated the initial vision. Do better next time. This could've been great.

Better than the first
8 June 2023
Best idea for this sequel was dropping the supernatural aspect from the first film. It absolutely improved the intrigue.

Actors and characters were a little annoying. Pace was good, though. Twist was appreciated. It's obvious that this was intended to be watched ON a laptop. Had to lean forward constantly to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I think this is a good movie to watch if you love The Den, but have seen it too many times and need something else to hit that spot.

Alright. Just need 120 more characters so I can post this. 60 now. Almost there. I just need one long sentence, and I'm good to go.

Escape Room (II) (2017)

Worst Escape Room Movie
4 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'll take "now that's what I call acting" for 100, Alex.

1-dimensional characters with side plots i don't care about trying to work together to solve puzzles. Some puzzles were kinda neat. Most were "how did you get there in one try with that logic?"

I didn't mind that it took a long time to get to the first kill (after prologue); I actually thought the choice to wait gave it ambiguous tension about whether or not it would even *be* that type of film. This fact doesn't save the plot or story for me, however.

Moving on. Ending was terrible. How did the room-builder know that only Tyler would be in the last room? How did he know Tyler would be in that room at all? The button said "save him". How do you write this story and Christen is not the villain? You mean she didn't set this up because she knew Tyler cheated on her with Natasha? No? We're going with 'she let the wrong dialogue slip out at a fancy sex party that happened off-screen and has nothing to do with our story'?

Favorite part of the film has to be when Christen states that she looked for them on the internet and there's nothing, but then the invitation is a F@&+ING WEBSITE.

Nothing further; watch at own peril.

Great revisit
21 May 2023
This movie/extended episode was exactly what fans of the original show wanted. Perfect amount of nostalgia, in my opinion. Was it expertly written? No. Was it expertly acted? No. But neither was the original show. I found Trini's daughter to be very annoying most of the movie, but ended up actually appreciating the character arc.

Probably will watch this again; definitely captured the vibe of the original show. The idea of RoboRita took some time to get used to, but I get it.

The callbacks didn't come across as forced. Loved that they withheld the full morphing time for the end. I could watch another one like this.

Poker Face (2022)

Weird
27 April 2023
This movie was so weird. Started off like it was gonna be a noir, then like it was going to be an intense isolated-mansion whodunit, then wrapped up as a very sloppy heist attempt.

After seeing it, I think it was trying to be a character study, but tried to introduce us to this character by rushing us through Poker Face 1, 2, 3, and 4 all in one movie.

With the title of the movie being Poker Face and the premise of the movie being a billionaire hosting a poker game with his business partners/friends, you would think there would be more than just a few minutes of actual poker in this movie. I was very disappointed about that.

Overall, I'd recommend to skip this one. Whoever wrote it tried, but sadly missed.

Oof buddy

This movie was a wild swing-and-a-miss. Absolutely nothing like it's '90s counterpart. Just a bunch of poorly written comedy and honestly just an overall bad story to begin with. Our protagonist isn't even really all that likeable.

However, I had to give it two stars instead of one because the meet-up scene with the toy store employee at the warehouse was hilarious. It felt like the cast of IASIP literally came on board to write this one scene. Seriously, whoever wrote the comedy and style of comedy for that scene should have absolutely been in charge of writing the whole movie. I'd have paid to see that movie.

Alas, that isn't the movie we got. 2 stars. Do better.

Watch the movie
10 January 2023
The people who love this movie too much and the people that hate on this movie too much have seriously missed the point. Yes, there are flaws with this movie. Yes, the characters are 2-dimensional.

What over-the-top fans refuse to admit is that the story isn't air-tight. There are so many plot holes and plot conveniences. What haters refuse to admit is how much fun it is regardless.

Is it the best whodunit? Absolutely not. Was it a fun time to watch? Definitely. Plus you have Edward Norton and Daniel Craig bringing their A-game.

The ending wasn't my favorite either, but too deny that the ride was fun means you don't watch movies to enjoy them.

Not great
10 January 2023
This movie tries really hard to seem intelligent and shocking. Unfortunately, that's all this movie is: an attempt to be shocking. The messaging of this movie is all over the place, to the point that I don't think this story knows exactly what it is or is trying to be.

That's not to say that it isn't worth a one-time watch. It's mostly entertaining for the first two acts, but the payoff is sadly missed. Anya Taylor-Joy is always a delight on-screen, and her acting never misses. I just think this particular character falls flat.

This movie left me with the feeling of "what was I supposed to take away from this?" Good idea that goes nowhere.

More please
21 December 2022
Unlike the negative reviews, my only criticism I have is that I feel like it moved way too quickly. There was a potential for 2-1/2 seasons worth of story here that was rushed a little.

That said, this was the best star wars material since Rogue One. Loved the Mandalorian, but this was 100xs better. Who wrote the speeches in this show? I wanted to pick up a blaster and fight too.

I demand a season 2. This show is too good to be over, and Cassian is way too compelling of a character to be done with. (I'm pretty sure a season 2 is coming, I just wanted to be another tally towards people who are gonna watch it)

"Movie"
21 November 2022
This is not a movie; this is literally garbage. We tried to get through just 30 minutes before deciding whether or not to finish it, but we couldn't make it that long. Who wrote this dialogue? Which character am I supposed to like?

I can't even imagine the kind of person that would write this. A 15-year-old maybe?

Why do I have to submit so many characters? Is this a rule on all movies reviews now or just this one? This movie is not worth this many characters, but you're not going to stop me from warning everyone how terrible this is.

Please don't waste your time on this not-a-movie. It's awful.

Not his funniest

But "not his funniest" for Ricky Gervais is still pretty darn good. I enjoyed it. Recommend.

As with all stand up reviews, I never type enough characters. So here's some more. Good enough?

Still unsure what this movie was supposed to be. A conversation about tone and character motivations needs to be had. Great cast, but you can't just stop there movie. Gotta do something with them. Nice try.

Other than that, hilarious as usual from Tomlinson.

I thought that was enough, but here are some more characters to get this review submitted.

Ok this is a review for a stand-up special. Not a lot i can say without spoilers. You either like it or you don't; and I did.

"Here's a topic, and why you should agree with our left-leaning opinion; also, here are some people that agree with us, and some other people just saying words."

I'd be more annoyed if it wasn't just so exhausting.

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the first two acts of this film. Slow burns are the best. I just don't understand why that ending. The father is the bad guy, then the good guy for a second, then the bad guy again? I don't know; really weird way to end a very well setup story. Still would probably watch again though.

Exactly what i wanted
8 February 2022
Someone else described this show as "perfectly imperfect" and I agree 100%. Inserting the concept of improv comedy into a tired formulaic cop show was an exceptional idea. Will Arnett was also the perfect choice to take lead. Annie Murphy, Kumail Nanjiani, and Sharon Stone were all awful and bad sports, but Arnett refused to let them ruin a single scene.

More of this, please.

Embarrassing
8 February 2022
... for all parties involved. We always knew these characters would end up old, unhappy, alone, and crazy; but do we really have to bring the actors back just to show it? Yikes. Good for the actress who played Samantha to have the wisdom to stay far away from this.

Misses the mark
8 February 2022
Don't get me wrong, after enduring years of awful TV and movies, it was nice to watch a show that genuinely tried. All the elements were there, but the payoffs were sadly missed. Entertaining, definitely. Good, sure. Great? No.

What a nice... try
29 January 2022
I love Steve Martin Short. This show had so much potential. Just not quite good enough. Story wasn't well-written enough to be a solid mystery, the comedy wasn't on-point enough to be a solid comedy. Also, does Selena Gomez have another facial expression? I didn't hate it, just was mostly disappointed about how much better it could have been.

How do you make a prequel/spin off/ establishing show based on another show, but make that show so good that it makes the original show seem like the prequel's fan fic, post de facto? I loved Breaking Bad, but this show is so well written that it wins over BB.

Not the worst movie I've ever seen
5 January 2022
This movie actually had parts that I think saved it from a 1/10 score; however, overall the movie just isn't good. Not only is the story sub-par, but it just doesn't even feel like a Matrix movie. Also, i originally would have voted 3/10, but the ending is so stupid that i had to take 1 star off. Try harder or leave established franchises alone.

Edit: I added the star back because Keanu Reeves is always a win.

I know it's not a great show,
17 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So i won't rate it unrealistically, but for some reason I really enjoy watching it. There's just something that works. It's not a "so bad it's good" situation either. The acting isn't great, the writing isn't great. It's like it latches on to that suspension of disbelief that only true survivor-like shows can really ask for, and then let's you enjoy it *through* the bad acting and writing because, just like the other shows, you know it isn't real.

Not the best explanation, I know, but that's what I got. If I knew why I liked this show so much, I'd be able to explain it better.
