The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On (2022)
Trash full of trash couples
It's not a good sign when the finale comes, and the big question comes... "Will they get married, or move on?" and I'm sitting there hoping for all for them to move on.
This is a sad look into how low bar people have for their "soulmate". Feel like I'm sullying the word just watching this show. This show is filled with people that would do so much better with quite a few rounds of therapy, but they wanna get rich/be on tv, so a reality show it is...
It's sad to see a dating show where it's red flag after red flag with every relationship. And whenever they get to a point in a conversation they finally get to talk about it, they have to leave so the show can go on. Because if all these problems gets the positive or negative outcome it should have, you know where it'll go by the end. It's so ass backwards. It's a show about "love" but shows us anything but that.
I can hate-watch most of these shows and get some sort of enjoyment out of them. That's why I gave Love Is Blind a high rating. Not a golden show, but still fun, but this... This is just sad. At least try to communicate. Please... For your sakes.
The ONLY thing I can say that I can honestly praise in this compared to Love is Blind (which I think is fair since it has the same couple behind it) is the pacing. I think this show is far superior to get going and have each episode have a set point from episode to episode and not just hap-hazardly skip from one couple to the next with no cohesion. So I wanna praise that... But otherwise.... Yeah it's quite trash. Give it 2 stars extra for that, and all right production.
But for the ones that saw the show and liked it... Unironically... Please get higher standards for yourself. I'm not saying everyone will find their soulmates, but you should at the very least be with someone that treats you with the bare minimum signs of respect, tries to communicate, and tries to understand your side... A little bit at least. Get that, and you're already MILES past these 20 year olds that gets married on a whim with an army of red flags pinned to their suits/wedding gowns.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
Witty and realistic
The End of the Fucking World follows two teens that can't handle the modern life around them, that leads with them fleeing on a British Bonnie-and-Clyde-style roadtrip out into the unknown.
With a very distinct style with quick cuts, the monolguing of characters thoughts when needed, and other witty comedy, this show flies by where it's easy to watch entire seasons in one sitting. Me and my roommate saw one each night without even a hint of a problem.
It's also interesting how the two seasons mirror eachother. One season had problems the other one didn't. The first one was very direct and forward with a clear point. To find her dad and get away from their lives. But when season 2 came around the "point" was much less clear and they were just driving from place to place. Though season 2 got lower thanks to this than season 1, it's character writing gets deeper and goes deeper with especially Alyssa's character than season 1 dared to. Seeing how she coped with having her almost-rapist being cup up over her and having his blood on her hands. So both seasons had their own pros and cons, but it was still a very fun ride and with season, we also reached a great ending, so i hope they don't feel the need to go for a season 3, now that it's all neatly wrapped in a bow.
I highly recommend this one.
Sherlock (2010)
Another one (after a few seasons) bites the dust.
Sherlock, when i first started it, was amazing. The first three seasons were amazing. Amazing acting from the Cumberbatch and Freeman, every supporting character, and every villain were great. Especially Andrew Scott as Moriarty. Few people has had more fun with a role than he does with his. This amazing acting keeps going from start to end.
The editing is also amazing and playful, and shows you clues Sherlock picks up as you go along so you get the sense you're there along with him on the ride as he's solving the cases. It's also quick and engaging so you brought along in a quick pace keeping the flow of the episodes making you forget the 1 and a half hours per episode.
The problem here, is as it always is, in it's writing. Like most shows with multiple seasons, it started of great. Great villains with sinister goals, interesting plots, quippy lines and everything you could wish for in a show like this. The problem is twofold:
From the season finale of season 2, everyone starts dying but comes back. And like everything else, if it's overused, quickly it's pointless. (Spoilers) Sherlock dies in the same episode he's brought back in. Moriarty is dead, but the show uses two seasons to tease that he's back. So that's the one problem. The biggest problem the show can give the characters has been made into a joke.
The second problem is the crime-solving aspect of it. In the first seasons when he's inspecting a case, we're there along with him, but the further the show goes on, the further i got taken away from Sherlock having no clue what he was thinking and what was going on. It's like if you were watching a musical but couldn't hear the songs for some reason. It just don't work. The crime shows have to bring you along, not keep you in the dark until the last 5 minutes. The villains also stop making sense. The "big reveal" ends up being about a character we know nothing about certain times.
Also a smaller third thing, but i think Mary's storyline was butchered a bit. I never cared. It lead to a death i didn't really care for. I loved the reveal, but the whole story just felt like a bad action-plot from some NCIS show.
